Popular Post stoner
human trafficking is a huge problem. the recent movie sound of freedom (please leave your political views out and focus on the human trafficking) has brought this to a bigger light and i for one am happy. i wonder if the author would also write a piece from the other side as well. there are thousands and thousands of men who are taken advantage of by these *victims*. men who have their life savings stolen from them. men who are manipulated and lied to for any number of reasons. we all know and have heard of so many stories about this. to be clear. yes i am aware that some women are forced to do this work. yes i am aware that some families sell their daughters into this trade. i am also aware that the vast majority freely choose this line of work - regardless of the circumstances that lead to that decision. 8 4

It sounds like a heavily embellished fictional "memoir". Quote There are few times I’ve ever felt as helpless as I did in that moment … because there was nothing I could do. There was nothing I could say. There was just the touch of our hands; the small smiles between us as I tried to let her know, I see you. I hear you. Awful. The first thing that springs to mind it, why is there nothing she can do? She's in some sort of anti-trafficking gang. Why not bar-fine her (if she is even a prostitute in the first place) and then try to help her, if she's in such dire straights? "I see you. I hear you." What good is that? "Oh thank you so much. You seeing me and hearing me makes me feel so much better about my apparent sexual slavery". 2 3 3
Popular Post HuskerDo2
Very sad and disgusting. When I hear stories like this I wonder to myself where the parents are and why/how they can let their kids end up like this. So sad that instead of playing with their friends they are being sold to old, fat losers that have no sense of morality. 1 1 1

No. The author addresses the sentiment that you seem to possess. Each time, their body language screamed the same sentence: “I don’t want to be here. I don’t want this”. I looked around at all the men in the building and wondered if they saw it too. Can’t they see what’s going on inside these young women’s eyes? Do they not see the same things we do? Or do they just not care? And if you read on they are helping the girls. a number of prevention and rehabilitation homes had been created for survivors (or those who were at high risk of being exploited), and I met with dozens of teenage girls who had once been in the industry. And what are you doing to help them? Edited July 31, 2023 by metisdead Oversize font reset to normal. 1

The point is that it is likely a mostly fictional (and poorly written) account based on what the author felt when she went there. Try not to let your feelings of bitterness towards people who use prostitutes interfere too much with your critical thinking capabilities. 2

This comment doesn't make sense as you wrote it aimed at men who simply use prostitutes, but you're now copying it to use to reply to someone who clearly referenced men who want to have a genuine relationship. More the very loose "based on real events". 27 minutes ago, Goat said: What percentage of females do you think actually want to be a prostitute? An interesting question. It's not something that I have dallied with personally, but the Thai attitude to the body, to sex and especially to money, suggests that quite a few are OK with it. A lot of relationships in Thailand seem to follow the "sex for money" pattern, and prostitution seems very popular with Thai men. The level of unemployment, the popularity of the profession, the various forms it takes, including "sponsors", sugar daddies, and so on, suggest that it's pretty common and accepted in Thailand. While I wouldn't deny that underage prostitution, forced/coerced prostitution, trafficking, etc., all take place in Thailand, I would find it hard to believe that the majority are forced to do it. 27 minutes ago, Goat said: Would you do it? Spread your cheeks for fat old men who are that hideous they can not find sex in the real world without paying? Personally, I wouldn't have sex with any man for money, nor any woman. However, reality tells me that women feel very different about it. The number of relationships where the man is hideous and the woman attractive, tells me that women are simply not as bothered about physical appearance as men are. Exactly how that factors into prostitution, I'm not sure, but it's something to think about. Edited July 31, 2023 by BangkokReady 1

That's irrelevant. Your comment made no sense for the reason I pointed out. There's a difference between a man using a prostitute and a man marrying one and her stealing all his money. It's that simple. (Also, a lot of people report doing exactly that.) Edited July 31, 2023 by BangkokReady

OneMoreFarang
I am often enough in Nana. These days at least 99% of the girls are over 20. And 90% of that remaining 1% are over 18. There is no problem with underage sex in Nana. Having said that, I am sure one or the other girl would be willing to introduce her little sister to someone who is interested. Or in other words: Nobody will by accident meet a young teenage prostitute in Nana. And those who search for underage girls and boys will always find them. For the record: I ask the girls from time to time how old they are, and after living here long enough I have a pretty good idea myself if they are "old enough". I never tried to find any illegal underage prostitute. But I am sure they exist - not only in Bangkok and not only in Thailand. 1
Popular Post FruitPudding
Is this even still a thing nowadays in Nana Plaza? I have spend plenty of time around the Nana area and I can't say I've noticed anyone that looked underage, nevermind as young as 13. But pop into a few karaoke bars in local residential areas as well as out in the sticks and you'll see: at least half of them look underage and not just by a year or so. I think we know where the problem really is -- and it ain't Nana Plaza (which has security checking the IDs of every Thai female going inside....jeez) 1 2

The book was published in October last year, so we should probably assume this was a recent visit. I think it's probably mostly fictional, based on how the author wanted to interpret what she saw on a visit to wherever it was, based on her personal agenda. She seems to want to make it sound like it's essentially an under-age, forced sex area, which I find hard to believe, given its profile. 1
Popular Post mokwit
I think we can work out why such a distorted picture was presented. She obviously has not let truth get in the way of a good story for money from speaking engagements and book sales. 'This is an edited extract from the best-selling ‘thriller memoir’, The Stories We Carry, by award-winning human trafficking ambassador, resilience speaker and book coach Jas Rawlinson. Grab a copy here or book Jas to speak at your event here. You can also find her on Instagram @jas_rawlinson.' Nearly 30 years ago I lived in an apartment complex which was a place where most of the apartment renters were women who worked Nana and Cowboy, also primarily one of the nearby massage parlours. I knew the reality and it was not as described by the article or people on this thread. I am not defending it, I am just saying there is a hugely distorted picture being painted. When I saw packs of adult women going out at dusk evocative of lionesses going out on the hunt, it wasn't them I felt sorry for. There was one bar on the right that had underage girls standing outside but it is Loooong gone. Also, right or wrong, the age of consent at that time was 13, reflecting that historically people would live in the same village for their entire lives. It was increased to 18/15 parental consent. It seems that there was recently a bar in the Soi 7 complex that had underage girls and it was rightly busted by the authorities. This is an unusual situation - Covid desperation maybe. A lot of land got hocked over reduced earning power due to Covid. I remember Trink saying that he used to take journalists 'round so they could see the reality, but gave up as they always published the pre written narrative they had come here with.
