Popular Post snoop1130 Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 A British Muay Thai boxer was left with one leg 3cm shorter than the other after undergoing surgery following a horror motorbike accident last year. Connor ‘Carnage’ McBride is now resorting to fundraising in the hope of going under the knife once more to correct the botched operation. A former British Junior Champion, Connor had been competing on the Thai island of Koh Samui when he was hospitalised by a motorbike accident. Metal rods and pins were used to treat his badly fractured femur, but Connor has been left in constant pain by hip problems, spinal misalignment and disrupted bone growth. In order to stand a chance of competing in the ring again, Connor will have to replace the rod with a plate. By Sam Montgomery Caption: Connor ‘Carnage’ McBride is now resorting to fundraising. Popular Post JensenZ Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 He should thanks his lucky stars he can still walk. An expat friend had a motorcycle accident in 2011 - it damaged his knee which required surgery. The best surgeon (and most expensive) in Thailand messed up the surgery and he had to go under the knife again - and again. Cost well in excess of a million baht - end result: His bones are ruined from all the surgery and can no longer regenerate. They are so damaged he can't even get an artificial knee as the damanged bones would not support it. The only option would be to amupute the leg above the knee and use a prosthetic leg. I would not recommend he get surgery again in Thailand, if that was his plan. 10 4 5 1 2 1

Yes, there are cases here of good surgery - but Thailand does seem to have more than its fair share of rubbish surgeons. A BIG issue is that there is no true legal comeback 8 2 1 1

Popular Post 1duckyboy Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 Broke my femur into three pieces in motorbike accident in America. The leg wound up 1cm. shorter. The femur is the strongest bone in your body and it takes a great deal to break it. He's lucky he's still alive. *^#@ happens, especially on a motorbike in Thailand. 10 2 3

Popular Post Jonathan Swift Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 Suspicious story to play on public sympathy. The leg may be 3 cm shorter, but that doesn't mean surgery was "botched", it could be just the way it healed. Your leg will never be the same after that kind of accident. I didn't see anything in the story that would indicate fault on the part of the surgeon. Maybe it WAS the surgeon's fault, but there's not enough info in the story. 29 1 1
Popular Post sumongkhwai Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 If he's got rods an pins in his femur the doctors did what they could to save his leg after a "horror" motorbike crash. And he is now starting some fundraising to get his leg lengthened? Well 1) good luck mate and 2) get a job to pay for it yourself. There's a reason I stopped riding motorbikes in my 40s, funny thing, I like to walk. Won't even take it to the 7, insist we take the Jazz but, that's just me. 6 1 2 1 2

As for getting back to competing I think he needs a re-think on his future. 10 3

They did try to unbotch it (twice), but the damage was too severe from the first botching. First of all there was the accident damage, then more damage created from the first botch, and then again after the 2nd and 3rd botchings. You can't keep attaching and reattaching steel screws, pins and plates to bones. There's a limit. Eventually the leg can't be fixed and will need to be removed. 1 1

I'm sure my friend would have gone back to the UK had he known the best surgeons in Thailand were going to mess up his leg. By the time he had it checked out in the UK, it was beyond repair, and that was an assessment by UK surgeons.

Popular Post KhunLA Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 Oh please ... try simply saying THANK YOU, for saving my leg, possibly my life. So now he has a bit of a limp, OMG. Shouldn't really interfere with his Muay Thai. And of course, get others to pay to correct it. Cry me a river. My one leg is 4cm shorter than the other due to hip displacement, not an issue in anything I do. Just a bit of a hobble when walking. Actually mine is 'adjustable' and simply need to pull hip/leg back into position. 6 1 1 1

Empathy is not something that registers with you tuff guy. If the problem is that his leg is 3cm shorter then the solution is a shoe with a 3 cm raise. If that doesn't fix it then the problem probably isn't the leg length. If he can't play in a ring anymore, perhaps he could feel happy that he didn't actually die. BTW I don't have empathy for anyone that rides a m'bike in Thailand and then has an accident- it is probably inevitable to have some sort of accident if doing so, and I had one too. However, I didn't start a gofundme thing to get other people's money to fix myself. 6 2

The solution isn't moaning about it but to find the best solution, and seems like the best solution in his case is an amputation. Millions live successful lives after amputation. The problem seems to me that he wants to continue being a ring fighter, and he needs to move on from that. It's not like he's the only one had that problem. 4 1 3 1

Popular Post Seeing Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 I just do not understand why it seems every farang that has a motorbike accident in Thailand seems to need to fund-raise for everything and also complain that whatever happens to them is either not their fault or a sub standard job. Why do so many yahoos leave their country and do not have adequate medical insurance. Sadly again, it sounds like the usual suspect. Thailand must be a haven for cheap charlie brits that have their priorities all hosed up. And they apparently do not understand the value of earning lifetime health insurance/medical coverage when they were working and that coverage could likely be worth more than any pension. Even the advert at the end of the story is about medical insurance. If any of this pisses you off or you still don’t get it…..well, there’s your sign. Regardless, prayers for his speedy recovery. 2 1
