snoop1130
Conservative parties in pole position as Pheu Thai struggles to form coalition govt. Almost three months after the May 14 general election, Pheu Thai officially formed a new alliance with Bhumjaithai on Monday (August 7), and announced they are open to more political parties joining to form Thailand’s next government. The new coalition emerged just days after Pheu Thai’s political divorce from the Move Forward Party, which won the largest number of seats in the election but failed to secure majority support from Parliament for its prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat. Popular Post spermwhale
It looks like everyone has gotten greedy and want the cup. While greed is part and parcel of politics, now even parties that were not even close in the vote count think they can cobble together a coalition to run the country. Thailand seems destined to mass political protests, gridlock and coups. And with Thaksin coming back, that's more fuel on the fire. 8 1

kimamey
"Olarn pointed out that Pheu Thai statedly clearly when announcing its alliance with Bhumjaithai that it would not partner with Move Forward." Clearly hasn't been paying attention then. So much for expert.
retarius
Obviously Prawit's the next PM, then he can stack the Senate with anti-democratic senators in a few months time when this shower's term ends.
Popular Post sidneybear
Who didn't see that coming? Only the legions of lefty posters on this forum who insisted that this time was somehow different. I'm glad. Conservatism is what keeps Thailand's charming traditions and culture intact. Some people never learn. 2 1 2
BenStark
Maybe I don't understand this correctly, but if MFP votes for the PM suggested, which I would disgust but am afraid they will do, then the senators are outside as the PM will have over 400 votes already.
Popular Post Toolong
What a sad, tragic circus of knaves & fools. The last dance of the political robber barons, doing a jaunty, mocking jig around they who voted for much, much better and thought they'd got it. This is not even politics at its worst, because it's not politics. It's something else, something too undefinably hideous. 1 1

Popular Post MrMojoRisin
This is fascinating to watch play out. Conservatives, globally, are on the back foot in regards to popular support yet cling to power - mostly by either threatening or actually blowing up democracy and its institutions. 1 1 1
anchadian
That's a further 10 seats bringing the tally to 238 seats: Pheu Thai leader Cholnan Srikaew has announced the Chart Thai Pattana party has joined its coalition government. https://twitter.com/TNAMCOTEnglish/status/1689474050341670912 Edited August 10, 2023 by anchadian
Popular Post jcmj
It will be what it will be, but it certainly won’t be democratic. That’s long gone in the former Land of Smiles. 2 1
anchadian
Senator Wanchai Sornsiri said that as the Move Forward Party is no longer part of the Pheu Thai-led coalition and the country requires a government, the senators will vote in alignment with the majority of the house this time. He said it is evident that the Pheu Thai PM Candidate will undoubtedly amass sufficient votes to secure the position of the next PM, given the support from the senators. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1689470415322980352
anchadian
Here's the current breakdown: The Chart Thai Pattana Party has officially joined the Pheu Thai-led coalition, which now comprises nine political parties, including: - Pheu Thai Party (141 MPs) - Bhumjaithai Party (71 MPs) - Chart Thai Pattana Party (10 MPs) - Prachachart Party (9 MPs) - Chart Pattana Kla Party (2 MPs) - Pheu Tai Ruam Palang Party (2 MPs) - Seri Ruam Thai Party (1 MP) - Palang Sangkhom Mai Party (1 MP) - The Party of Thai Counties (1 MP) This brings their total number of MPs to 238, which is still 12 MPs short of a simple majority of 250 MPs. MPs from external parties are expected to switch parties and join the coalition in the coming days. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1689478343367008256

Alotoftravel
When MF was not able to get Pita as PM, the baton was handed to PT. This was even after MF with over 251 to form the govt.( and now PT scrambling to get that ? Can the baton be handed back over to MF so that as the most votes party be on the drivers seat again?
