Thinking of making this the last time I quit drinking- but one problem!

Give alcohol free beer a try. Plenty to chose from in the U.K. theses days. From what I've tried - admittedly limited - the wine's and spirits don't seem quite right but the beers mostly taste much like the 'real' thing.

People laugh when I tell them it's the taste as much as the effects I miss if I'm not drinking alcohol, but I really do enjoy the taste, along with the association of drinking when socialising, watching sport, etc, so I find alcohol free beer a good compromise.

I drink alcohol regularly, and have no plans to stop, but there's times when I'll substitute my usual beer with an alcohol free alternative, mainly for health reasons.

Good luck.

I don't get drunk or incoherent or rude, I just get tired and head off home. Quite a pleasant person in drink as I don't annoy anybody.

Have a drink, be sociable and go home when you had enough.

Have the balls to tell friends no-thanks I've had my fill.

I've got the ' front ' to tell any of them, it isn't that.

I'm just never satisfied with a few beers, it has to be a lot of beers or no beers.

And I can go months and months when I stop, but when I start again, it's months before I stop.

Not in Qatar business class, it isn't!

Top wines and champagnes.

But I have been bright eyed, clearheaded, down in weight, heavier in pocket, whilst off the drink.

Of course the free element is moot as the price of the good wines and champagnes are built into the ticket price. although I have to say its been a number of years since I was last being served Krug onboard, but I guess that's what happens when I drop to biz.

As alternative to their (Qatar) champagne, try their luxury non-alcoholic bubbly "So Jennie" but a tip, let your attendant know that's what you are going to be drinking so they ensure they have a good amount chilled, also ask your attendant to let the bartendee's know that when you go to the bar you will also be consuming that.

I'm someone that would happily go through ten different wines with a meal on Emirates, even if they were opening a new bottle of vintage port just for me

In my 30ies to 40ies, I used to work hard like all professionnals,  but also drink and party hard till the wee hours of the morning,

What ultimately made me moderate my party habbits, quit smoking  were the annual full scale blood tests that showed the slow, silent but harmful reactions and suffering that was put into the body.

When you hear a your friendly neighbourhood doctor reminding you all the harm and deterioration that slowly occurs on diffrent levels following the blood or urine tests, belive me, it motivates to reduce the booze, watch the diet and quit definately smoking,

For the OP and others, it is never, never too late to watch your health. Once the habits change, all the alarming levels of cholesterol LDL, iron, vitamines etc etc etc in the body re adapt to normal values.

One can always enjoy have fun, but in moderation.

The mind feels suddenly much more relaxed. You don't get upset with the trolls in forums for instance ????

Excess or regular boozing deteriorates the intellect. Everybody knows that ?

One does not get angry or upset as before. The sense of smell and taste comes back. Food is even more a relish,  with now and then a good glass of wine (1 or 2 maximum)  and maybe once a month,  1 or 2 whiskies in the party. Doing a moderate sports jog or 30 minutes swimming is easier and makes you sleep like a baby.

This is absolutely no rocket science. Just common sense that most tend to forget.

Have 6-10 beers with a shot each at the airport in BKK - then when they refuse to let you board you won't have to make lame excuses in the UK.

You seem to be on here looking for permission and absolution for having no balls. Have a good life.

What is the problem in the first place if you say to not have a problem with drinking.

Just enjoy the lounges and the holiday, and then do whatever feels best when you are back in Thailand. People suffer so much by mindfking themselves in for example this way.

Then you do have an issue with alcohol, if you drink and cannot control the amount.. don't start.

Strange and obnoxious how some individuals claim to know all the answers for others. This is a individual issue and as is true with all species...not all the exactly the same. Some good opinions, but that's all they are. :coffee1:

This is UK I am referring to not Thailand.  Of course I can say No, but I can't sit hours in a bar on coffee or lime and soda, it ain't me.

That is part of the problem. The drink glass and a cigarette. Both are props. It is easy to sit with a beer in front of you for hours. Something to do with your hands. Its hard to sit and drink almost anything else for that long. Without the prop, you become uncomfortable.

Then leave the bar? ????

Why do you need to be sitting around for hours in a bar?

People who drink AND smoke, I've found, are almost always poor and stupid. Usually have a few ugly tattoos as well. The Bar is their go-to place, which is embarrassing and sad.

Rent a jetski and go to the beach or something. If you even entertain the idea of passing time by sitting at a bar for hours (and it's not a date or some kind of party) that is a sign of being a complete dingleberry smoothbrain.

I see legions of the same carbon copy loser; Never aspired for anything in life past sub-mediocrity. Lame blue collar job + spend all money on booze and cigarettes and probably prostitutes. So many of these sad souls exist, it's depressing to be in their presence.

This is the real test

I cut down my drinking until I am not bothering now a glass of coke is reward enough

I never say stopped drinking I occasionally have a glass d prove I can do it, but only one

I met with my family in a restaurant pub they like a drink ???????? when I ordered coke they just made a comment about not drinking, I said for now no

Only one sister tried to make anything of it saying I only stopped drinking because I couldn't afford it, I told her sure I had a lot more money in my pocket

One of the main reasons actually was my circle of friends changed slowly into non drinkers or light drinkers

The only bastion of heavy drinking I now encountered were my family who over the years have accepted I don't go to the pub with them but can provide a very useful taxi service ????
