webfact
Construction of the Thai-Chinese high-speed train between Bangkok and the north-eastern border province of Nong Khai is progressing satisfactorily, with the construction of the 250.77km section between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima province already almost 40% complete. For the second section, between Nakhon Ratchasima and Nong Khai, State Railways of Thailand (SRT) has recently completed the study and design of the project and it is ready to be submitted to the cabinet for approval, according to Sorapong Paitoonphong, deputy permanent secretary of Transport Ministry, in his briefing to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday during his field inspection of the project. The Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima section comprises 181.9km of elevated rail track, 64km of ground-level track and a 6.4km tunnel. There will be six stations on this section, which are Bang Sue main terminal, Don Mueang, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Pak Chong and Nakhon Ratchasima. The cost of this section is estimated at about 179.4 billion baht. Homburg
2027? Bit of a long wait. I'll go by bus instead.
soi3eddie
Should remove all the ground level stuff and crossings. What could possibly go wrong? Keep it to elevated only. Don't want any beached/stalled vehicles (tractors, busses, trucks or tuktuks on the tracks).

Popular Post edwinchester
I will be absolutely amazed if you can catch a fast train from Bangkok to Nong Khai in 2027 considering the section to Korat is only 40% complete and the section on to Nong Khai hasn't even received Govt approval yet. 2

Just one part of an international project, completion due sometime in the 2040s. It is a pity they started at Bangkok end with the Lao section being open now for about 18 months. In Jan I came down from Luang Prabang to Vientiane in 2 hours but they can't come across the river until the new station at Nong Khai is built. The 6,617.5km-long, meter-gauge railway network is being developed with an estimated investment of $15bn, under the ASEAN-Mekong Basin Development Cooperation (AMBDC) which was formed to encourage economic integration among the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. https://www.railway-technology.com/projects/singapore-kunming-rail-link-skrl/ 2

The article only says expected for public service in 2027, not that it would be fully complete. The section north of Bangkok would be to Vientiane, not just Nong Khai. The whole project is behind, originally scheduled for 2040, estimates are now nearer 2050. 1

Hmm... 7 hours ago, soi3eddie said: Should remove all the ground level stuff and crossings. What could possibly go wrong? Keep it to elevated only. High-speed rail has completely separated rights of away, even at ground level - there aren't any at-grade crossings. Yes, encroachments through the fences are always a possibility, but by vehicles - no.

I bet there is some minibus mafia already applying to be the sole supplier of transport from ship to shore for a fixed 200 baht/person for the 100m! PETERTHEEATER
One metre gauge and 'high-speed' are incompatible in my opinion.

The high speed lines will be standard gauge. How else can a train run directly from Kunmin in China to Bangkok?

No construction has started on Phase 2 which is in limbo until a new Government is formed.
