Misled by phishing email (was £10,000 for a tourist visa now?)

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I have just applied for a tourist visa with Thai Embassy London, they asked for proof i had 60,000 baht or more for my stay.

I sent my Thai bank account details with 320,000 baht and proof that my UK everyday account with my address on it by photo'ing it with my sons phone off my screen, it had £4,000 in it.

I have just received a email saying my visa cannot be processed unless i send them a statement with a UK account with address on it stating i have more than £10,000 in it.

The sums i have originally sent them equate to more than this but not wanting to upset anyone im trying to print my statement from my savings account with the required amount in, it wont print as apparently it is now illegal and banking apps have a safe guard to stop you printing or screen shooting your balance. I was going to try to photo it with my sons phone and send but just noticed the Embassy wont take copies of screen shots.

Question is has this happened to any one else and how did they get round it

£10,000 for a tourist visa wow.

Regards

Her Amphur is talking nonsense, no need to change to maiden name at all.

  • The simple alternative is stick two fingers up to the hoop jumping nonsense, breeze in on a 30 visa exemption stamp and extend it for a further 30days in country without any of the bally-hoo/bull shin

  • WARNING ...   The email received by the OP is an obvious phishing email that did not come from the e-visa team! That does not mean that some might not be hit with ridiculous requirements for

You can download a pdf statement of your account and print that. It’s certainly not illegal in the UK to have paper statements.

as for the need to have £10k to get a visa, can’t help you but sounds ridiculous

  • Popular Post

Its pretty simple,, Instead of a photo\screenshot just download the statement from your account and then upload it to for your application.

Cheers Regyai but cant do that mate, im staying until April next year. This is getting to be a bit messy. My Thai wife of 30 years was told by her Amphur to change her name back to her maiden name or lose her land. she did and now i cant get marriage visa's because our names are not the same.

Im an old Thailand hand but it seems to me that its just getting that bit silly now with all the regulations changing for the worse just about daily

Just curious why you'd bother with a tourist visa when British passport holders can get in visa exempt?

In September 2022 I received a tourist visa from London based on a UK bank statement showing a little over 3K Sterling.

10K is daft for a 60 day visa.

£10,000 - wow that's a big amount, didn't know there was/could be such variations between embassies.

We had a friend staying from NZ - I just checked the NZ Thai Embassy and amounts are the same as when they applied, for Single Entry Tourist visa NZ$2000 (£930), Multi Entry TV NZ$9000 (£4,200)

METV

"Bank statement with a balance of at least 9,000 NZD (credit card and home loan accounts not accepted)"

Download the statement on your phone, upload it in the visa application OR

Download the statement on your phone, mail it to your email and then print it on your computer.

They must be mixing up visa's or you applied for the wrong one. 10K is more in line for a visa based on marriage.

Mate there should be a requisite of 60,000 baht about £1,400 but they have sent this message this morning that my UK bank with £4000 and Thai bank with 320,000 baht is not good enough they want a copy of my savings account too

now i cant get marriage visa's because our names are not the same.

what do you mean?
my wife like many others did not take my name
you probably need to go get marriage certs or something updated
different names should not be any reason for declining marriage visa
maybe at worst go amphur get divorced and married again same day ????

or simply fly in on visa exempt
go to Savanakhet, Laos and get a marriage visa

i am not referring to her reason for changing her name
why can you not get a marriage visa?
who told you its not possible because names are different?
maybe its would be because her name now does not match the marriage cert
but cannot be simply due to surnames being different

I use Lloyds mobile banking App. You can download a .pdf of your monthly statement, then e-mail it, or if you're using your phone to create / submit your application, then just attach the downloaded statement.

Wrong bud, i went to the office in Chiang Rai for an extension and was told no and i wont get another marriage visa because the surnames dont match.

Look guys i know what its like i been living in Thailand fo 25 years now in the UK as my wife has cancer but i am experienced enough to know that there is no-one with enough experience when it comes to rules and regs in Thailand, its a daily guys mood that rules

£10k in the bank is a joke. I would say that would bar the majority of the UK population from gaining a tourist visa to Thailand.

A good portion of them might want to put their airfares and hotel fees on a credit card, with maybe £4k or £5k for cash based spending.

I can hear you, but i called the bank this morning and they informed me that a home computer is not the same as a mobile phone regarding downloading of documents. I will get my kids to try and do what you said as im an old guy and they can make things possible that i cant.

The thing is Ray why should all this be necessary when i have complied with all the rules according to the Embassy web site, Ive sent proof of around 600,000 baht and they should only want 60,000. Then this morning if you look at the copy of the email they sent me they now require  another copy of my savings account with £10,000 plus isnt £10,000 about 440,000 baht?

WARNING ...

The email received by the OP is an obvious phishing email that did not come from the e-visa team! That does not mean that some might not be hit with ridiculous requirements for issuing a visa but, if so, they would identify you by name and would not be asking you to send to a crazy email address that has nothing to do with e-visa.
