Will the global Ai craze and mainly ChapGPT, fo what do you use it (if you do so)   and any bugs or cybersafety issues ?

Used it once, yesterday. It's very quick, but the result was a little unsatisfying. It seems better than trawling through the internet. I am a diabetic and often want to see whether a particular food is recommended for diabetics. Trawling the internet very often results in diametrically opposed views. I will try CHAT GPT next time to see if I can get a consensus view.

Depends what you use it for.

Not really, but in terms of fair summary of information it is way more balanced than the skewed reactionary SEO answers stock google spits out.

Yes, I use it quite often, but I treat all responses with due caution just as I do with any internet search. (including responses on ASEAN Now!)

ChatGPT can be regarded as a natural-language front end for Wikipedia.

 

It works efficiently and quickly, but on most topics you should not rely on its answers.

I have encouraged my Thai staff to use it to correct the grammar and spelling in their emails and documents before sending. It has worked well, and their written English has markedly improved.

 

A lot better now than native speakers who confuse your and you're, lose and loose.

no, trawling the internet is better because I want to see the person behind the information and decide if the person is reasonably trustworthy based on all the content on his site, not just one article.

 

info from chatgpt comes in a vacuum. you don't know where it's coming from.

and most of it can not be trusted as with complex issues, there are multiple facets and conflicting information.

While I consider myself a pretty good writer, I use it to see when I'm sending a email to see if it can come up with a clearer way to say something. It can improve on grammar and spelling

 

When entering the above sentence in the chat box, preceded with "Write this more clearly:" it suggested: "Although I have confidence in my writing abilities, I use it specifically when sending emails. I hope it can suggest clearer ways to express my thoughts, as well as help with grammar and spelling improvements."

I’ve used it to write an email for me asking for compensation from a company who had let me down. The email it wrote was far better than anything I could have composed.

 

I’ve used it to re-word a rough list of rules and regulations (for a housing estate) and turn it into a professionally written list. Brilliant!

 

I used it to word the listing for an apartment I wanted to rent out. Very impressive!

 

My sister lives in Spain and she and her husband had a very bad flood in their house. She was in a very depressed state because of this. I asked GPT to write a humorous story about the flood which had to include their pets: a cat, a dog and a gorilla, and also mention that their insurance company were trying to wriggle out of paying for the damage. ChatGPT wrote a surprisingly clever story (in about 2 seconds!) which helped to cheer my sister up. More of an exercise in finding out how clever ChatGpt is. Remarkably clever, in my opinion. And if you don’t like the story, or want it longer or shorter, just ask it to try again, ad infinitum.

 

I find it to be hit and miss when you ask it for information.

Its very easy to ask ChatGPT for references for any information it presents.  If you doubt a response you can also challenge and it will review its own output.

 

I use it pretty much every day for research that can be technical or include academic material... its incredibly useful.

 

But if your enquiry is trivial - plain old Google is better.

I just clicked on the Asean Now link to ChatGPT at the top of this page and it looks like a very simple version of the one I use.

 

The version I use required me to register to use it.

 

Maybe there's a difference?

I use it daily to write short stories for me to learn Italian.  I ask it to target the grammar and vocabulary I want to learn.  Brilliant

Yes, I tried it with some basic questions, and it was almost correct.

Fortunately I am past applying for jobs, or employing anyone, so your suggestions do not apply. But I shall try it anyway.
