Popular Post webfact Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE was today (Aug.24) taken to task for allegedly granting undue privileges for de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra as a convicted inmate who was physically put behind bars for barely a half day. A group of street activists led by the so-called Students and People’s Network for Thailand’s Reform peacefully demonstrated outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice in protest of the agency whom they accused of practising double standards by providing undue privileges for the deposed prime minister who returned on Tuesday from 17 years in self-exile abroad after he had been deposed in the 2006 coup and sentenced in absentia by court to eight years in jail for a few separate cases of misconduct perpetrated during his premiership nearly two decades ago. An activist holding a placard that says, “In jail for only a day.” Photo: Thai Rath The alleged double standards practised by the Corrections Department under care of the Ministry of Justice to satisfy the desires of the de facto Pheu Thai boss regardless of the law under which he should have been treated like other inmates were unduly compromising the country’s judicial integrity, the anti-Thaksin activists said. Popular Post webfact Posted August 24, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 Probe sought into alleged double standard treatment of prisoner Thaksin A group of people gathered at the Ministry of Justice today (Thursday), demanding an investigation into the conduct of the director-general of Corrections Department for alleged double standards in the treatment of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, claiming that he is being treated as a “VIP guest.” After his arrival in Thailand from his self-imposed exile on August 22, Thaksin was taken to Bangkok Remand Prison, to serve his 8-years in prison. Due to claimed health issues, he was placed in the prison’s hospital. In the middle of that night, he was transferred to the Police General Hospital by the Corrections Department, when he developed chest tightness and could not sleep. In a statement, the department said its hospital is not adequately equipped to cope with Thaksin’s ailments, such as heart disease, and decided to admit him to the Police General Hospital. Popular Post Homburg Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 Of course the Justice Ministry is granting privileges to Thaksin, but these are not "undue". These have been bought and paid for! 17 13 3 10
Popular Post bendejo Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 Undue? Hey, he's paying good money for those privileges! Strictly coincidental that those medical problems arose as soon as he set foot in LOS. 13 6 3 8
Popular Post neeray Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 There's nothing new about the game that was played, but like many, I am surprised at how quickly the game played out. No doubt "others" in legal jeopardy in "other countries (or country)" are following this charade closely, just in case they too get tossed in jail. 5 3
Popular Post Card Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 No way will he ever get put behind bars, at least beyond a nominal period of time. 5 5 2
Popular Post Bim Smith Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 Technically he is a medical tourist. I would be at least asking for a discount on a room with no Aircon. 1 1 1 1 9

But in this case money speaks. He don't need to go to prison, but because of so called health problems he can stay at home.. How different it is for many inmates with real health problems..Or have we forgot how they handled the hunger strikers? Or the handling in prisons of the Covid infections... ??This is a make up but again money speaks and is the key to opens every door.... Shameful for Thailand and justice 3 7 2

Popular Post Scouse123 Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 It isn't the fact that he is getting preferential treatment as an ex prime minister and controversial character , it's the fact that they are denying it, when it's as plain as the nose on your face. Those walking around waving placards as token resistance to this treatment need to stop wasting their energy. 2 2
Popular Post Scouse123 Posted August 24, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2023 It is true that people can be taken outside from the Medical corrections hospital when they don't have the equipment ore facilities to care for them properly. They of course do not appoint six doctors to take care of their well being nor do they use a helicopter for the transportation. 3

kimamey Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 If prisoners aren't allowed cellphones in prison, why does being so I'll you need an emergency transfer by helicopter to hospital, change that? You might be allowed to call family, but not to conduct politics. That's assuming that story is true of course. 1
