buffalo delight

For several weeks now I have been talking to a water buffalo. I first noticed him tied to a tree on a long rope next to the path that goes around the lake where I take my morning walk. He is separated from his comrades and just stands there for most of the day alone. At first I just stood there for a few minutes and spoke a few words which made him timidly retreat away from the path while he looked at me. Gradually I stayed longer. Eventually I sat on the raised concrete path with my legs in his 'territory' and spoke to him for 10 then 20 then 30 minutes, each day he would come closer as if listening, much to the amusement of any locals who passed by. Now he comes so close as to press his wet nose on my arm giving out loud but gentle puffs of his breath on me but he wont let me touch him, he shakes his enormous head if I try. This morning was a delight, he saw me approaching from afar and immediately ran from the roadside up the slight bank and waited for me next to the path, he almost seemed excited in his own quite way. We settled into our daily routine, he blew copious amounts of buffalo breath on my head while I told him my household news and stared into his beautiful black eyes. I know there is a consciousness there, not just a dumb brute who could crush my rib cage with one side sweep of his massive horns but a fellow sentient being with feelings.

Play nice music to the buffalo, some people play an instrument, but music on the phone would work

I don't want to corrupt him with high tech, next he'll want videos, the chats are just as relaxing for me as they are apparently for him.

I noticed in recent times that cats are attracted to me, and I sometimes talked to a lonely cat, staying in a hotel. While I was more a dog-person before I came to Thailand, I am really a cat-person now.
