Frankie baby Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Convicted former prime minister Ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who recently began serving an 8-year prison term. At least they got the convicted right, but as for the "recently began serving an 8-year prison term" unless having a cup of tea & a biscuit while a deal is cut constitutes a prison term, maybe they should have just left that part out? 1

Thailand Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 MFP may have had a chance if their policy had excluded one item in particlar. The deal was done to ensure they would not be able to persue it. Thaksin returns, MFP are blocked by PT and link up with other parties. Thaksin applies for pardon as agreed. MFP removed for certainly the time being. Thaksin gets pardon. was never difficult to see what was happening. 1

Popular Post bamnutsak Posted September 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 1, 2023 Reflects poorly on the moral authority in Thailand... Hold a 15 year old woman for 50 days without bail for peaceful protest, on a spurious 112 charge. Spring convicted seditionists (Suthep Gang) on bail after 30 hours in jail. Pardon Thaksin, who we've been told since 2006, is criminal who was so bad he had to deposed. Does this sort of erratic behavior make sense to anyone? How can it be defended? 4

The sooner he learns that the better. He doesn't seem to understand that he is not important and he never was. The application has been sent to someone way above his pay grade and position. It seems to me that he cannot let go of the tiny bit of power he had. His actual position, and has been since the election in May, is only a Deputy Prime Minister in a caretaker government. Somewhat akin to an office boy or a gofer. He received (intercepted?) the appeal yesterday. The previous Prime Minister, serenaded by adoring crowds of civil servants left office yesterday. Did no one tell Wissanu? 1

Cabradelmar Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Knowing full well he still has a lot of support from the poor, many of whom will be disappointed if clemency is not granted. Even most sec. 112 offenders are typically granted clemency eventually (usually on he Kings birthday). But after less than 1 month in lockup? You can say this about Thaksin, he is nothing, if he is not bold.
