Funny that more people are flooding into Florida than other states, whilst all places like San Fran, Chicago NY etc - dem states - are losing people and revenue and going bust. San Fran now is just a hell hole.

I do nor see Desantis as anti-gay - I fully support a ban on gay pornographic books in schools.

Can you give an example of a few of those books please?

I have no idea what they would be.

There is no shortage of potential retirees for Thailand. They don't need to be LGBTQ. The problem is that Thailand makes it as difficult as possible with their bureaucratic bull<deleted> and money in the bank requirements. I moved to Cambodia where I just need to pay US$300 for a 12 months multiple entry visa. No financial requirements, no periodic reporting, no contact with the government - just a payment to the visa agent once a year. Thailand can't get their head around the fact that EVERY dollar or euro or yen that comes into the country through pensions is spent in the country and supports all the little traders. This is foreign currency that the government doesn't need to lift a finger to get. Scrap the 600,000 baht bank requirement - LEARN FROM CAMBODIA.

Correct you are.I contribute 100% of my pension income to the Thai economy each year circa 1 mil. baht.

If they close the door here I'll be going direct to Cambodia for sure.

I've already done a lot of research on the Visa subject you've nailed it.

The only decision to be made is which area to live in? I've traveled around there a fair bit and liked Battambang and Siem Reap.

I lived in siem reap a year or two. You can make it work as an expat if you don’t need medical. There’s just not a lot to do after seeing the temples and sitting in eateries. Many people end up just drinking in bars.

A perfect example of old-fashioned, macho stereotyping. One would have thought such attitudes belonged in a best-forgotten past. Wake up, man!

Such vile idiocy is displayed loud and proud on this forum.

Don’t you guys have any sense of humor or enjoy sarcasm? Letting others take the piss, jabbing others for a laugh?

Some people just don’t get it. Try watching some old Benny Hill episodes on YouTube if you don’t understand what I mean. Learn to relax.

Living together for over a decade, and they would move to TH, just for a piece of paper.

That piece of paper doesn't give straight couples any benefits, worth uprooting your life for.

If anything, it's a negative when you decide not to be together any more.  If you don't get married, then there is no worries about an expensive, life changing divorce.

They should count their blessings.

It's good to have the same choices as others. Marriage is not required.

Actually I quit drinking 8 months ago and don't miss the bars after a lifetime of warming barstools.

I'm 72 so my activity level isn't a lot these days.

I'm in the "Happy hour" of life as they say. I have Thai medical insurance but with so many exclusions it's basically useless.

I think gay retirees are already sold on Thailand but if they want to promote it more sounds good to me.

There is competition of course just as there is for other demographics.

Gay men are desired because in general they spend more. Obviously with many exceptions.

I may recommend siem reap in that case. I was pretty happy there. One plus was that people tend to leave you alone so it feels more “normal” compared to Thailand, whatever that means. Less like people are catering to you, hovering over you, watching you, etc. There it’s more like they don’t care as much.

There are some nice places and houses along the river not far from downtown. It feels and smells more like jungle which was a plus for me.

I guess if something medical non-emergency happened you could fly to Bangkok pretty quickly and easy from the airport.

If you're really in a bad way you're not going anywhere.

The thing about jungle smell is that you get used to it and after a few days you don't smell it anymore. At least that's my experience.

I could probably live in Siam Reap too if I had to assuming I could stream and download torrents.

Anything would need to go through a Cambodian carrier. They have the whole espionage thing there. Some foreigner jailed for flying drones awhile back. Not sure what became of him. That rules out stuff like starlink.

Well they failed bringing in high numbers from Chinese, Indians, Arabs so there latest Brainwave is to try and lure the Lbgt squad.

And yet, I keep reading the complaints of too many Chinese, Indians, Arabs & Russians here.

I don't think there's a shortage of A-folks (alphabet folks) here.  I see them (plural pronoun use) everyday.

You all need to make up your mind.

Yes mostly gay men.

Show your source for the mostly black assertion or it should be deleted.

Now there is nothing wrong with trying to attract a population segment.  However my degree was not in Marketing but rather Business Administration.  Business majors were always taught that it was most profitable to have a target market that was large.  At best the LGTB community represents 7% of the population.

Wouldn't it make more sense to target the 93% rather than a very decided minority population.  In addition, lets say you don't target based on sexual orientation but rather another factor perhaps gambling.  If your country is suddenly comprised of a large population of gamblers it will dramatically change the characteristics of the country.  I know Pattaya in particular has tried to shift ithe attractiveness of the city away from being just a bar with bar girl image to something more attractive to a larger segment of the population.  I can't say that I would find the transition to a city/country that similarly was sexually oriented could be done without impacting its attractiveness the the other 93% of the population.

So you think LGBT retirees are all sexpats? LGBT is about identity.

How did you get the conclusion that he was talking about LGBT sexpats retirees?

Is LGBT not about sexual identity and gender identity?

The example given is interesting, like if a country focused on industry then they will probably lose on tourism but I don't think targeting the supposed 7% LGBT would be a problem for the rest 93% of the population.

Maybe Thailand doesn't have same sex marriage yet but they seem less divided on the LGBT question.

Why does the media have to bring sex into absolutely everything?

LGBT is about identity.

Most everyone has sex at least sometimes
