Governments shouldn't be in the business of subsidising anything, full stop.

Governments and private citizens massively subsidize the fossil fuel industry.

IMF Fossil Fuel Subsidies Data: 2023 Update

This paper provides a comprehensive global, regional, and country-level update of: (i) efficient fossil fuel prices to reflect supply and environmental costs; and (ii) subsidies implied by charging below efficient fuel prices. Globally, fossil fuel subsidies were $7 trillion in 2022 or 7.1 percent of GDP. Explicit subsidies (undercharging for supply costs) have more than doubled since 2020 but are still only 18 percent of the total subsidy, while nearly 60 percent is due to undercharging for global warming and local air pollution.

This thread is full of old guys opining.  But among younger people (and younger voters), climate change and the environment in general is about the most important issue in their lives.  Understandably so as they'll be around longer to deal with the consequences of man-made climate change.  So these old guys praising and worshiping Trump for his nutty beliefs, you're on the wrong side of history.

I'd believe that if I saw young people actually doing something about it if that what they believe, but I don't see anything that makes me believe they care.

So?  Is that your justification for government subsidies?

Biden has added over 759,000 new manufacturing jobs over the 2.5+ years in office and recently committed $200 billion to new projects.

Trump over four years failed to revive American factories with fewer people working in manufacturing by the end of his term.

ref.  April 2023  https://fortune.com

Trump promised to make sure energy pipelines were made of American steel and iron. But he never did with resulting job losses in pipe and tube mills.

But I give Trump credit for paying almost $200,000 in taxes to China for operation of Trump hotels and the takeover of America's largest oil refinery in Texas to Saudi Arabia state-owned Saudi Aramco. Subsequently, Trump urged OPEC to raise oil prices that would help American oil and refinery companies to greater profits. Of course the price increase ultimately is paid by the American consumers.

Trump is a moron.

Biden is clearly senile.

McConnell is in worse shape than both.

America needs generational change ASAP before it’s too late to properly address climate change.

LOL. Wasn't there a thing called covid happening at the end of his term? Could that possibly have impacted factory workers? You know........ lockdowns and all that.

Nice try but no cigar.

Hmmmmm. So just what do YOU think we need to do to properly address climate change, and is there any reason you can't do that without government holding your hand?

I hear a lot of talk talk about it but see sod all being done, other than flying hundreds of people to conferences to talk about it. I believe the next one is in Dubai 555555555555555555555.

Yanks can not change the climate. Basic math. Anyone who has read the studies knows this.

Trump has a lot of common sense!

Those batteries are all sourced from China.

I remember they laughed when he told the Germans not to rely on Russian gas.

Giving your enemies power over your country is never a smart move.

Batteries can be literally sourced in the blink of an eye from other countries!!!

I've got 4 'fat' old 100ah lifepo4 batteries, can't find anywhere to take/dump them.

I would say you haven’t tried very hard. I used to earn a tidy sum recycling abandoned used up batteries. Almost every scrap yard accepts them. I happened to have a 3/4 ton diesel truck so it made sense to collect a full load and drive an hour to sell them for the best price. A neighbor even paid other locals a modest fee for their used batts and did likewise; he had a larger truck and a large area for storage of junk.

Well, America is one of the biggest polluters on this planet, any type of improvement they would make would definitely be for the better. Having said that, I don't think mankind can actually stop climate change. Also, there has been periods in Earth's history where it's been on average 15 degrees warmer than now and it wasn't that long ago and mankind still survived. It's one big cycle that comes and goes. But then again, to think that mankind hasn't sped up that process since it became industrialized is just silly and it can't continue that way it is now.

Why can’t I solve climate change without government involvement - well, that would be for the same reasons I didn’t invent and distribute my own Covid vaccine.

What a ridiculously stupid question.

Given that the human race depends on industrialization to survive, what is the alternative?

Given that most of the human race depends on diesel power to grow and transport food, what is the alternative?

Given that millions depend on tourism to survive, what is the alternative to planes?

Given that most of our products are transported on oil burning ships, what is the alternative?

As opposed to someone that has let an invasion of the country by undocumented migrants happen ? 3 million souls to be fed and housed by the US tax payer - even the Dem states are critical of the head silly old fool allowing their states to be overrun

Americas economy would be crippled without the influx of cheap labour - that is why big business wants (and get) an open border.

Totally different issues.

Wildly exaggerated

Such migration happens under all presidents.

It's not an invasion.
