A number of senators will question the government over its “digital wallet” scheme and plans for constitutional amendments during the policy statement debate, which will take place over about 30 hours on September 11 and 12.

Senator Kamnoon Sidhisamarn, spokesman for the Senate whips, said today (Wednesday) that the whips of the senate, the government and opposition parties will meet tomorrow to discuss the allocation of time during the debate.

Kamnoon said that each senator will be given about 10 minutes to speak and has until this Friday to apply to join the debate.

Will Srettha get to pick the next lot of Senators if he is in power when they all have to be replaced? Does anyone know the Constitution on this point?

This may not be correct, but I read on another thread, several months ago, on AN that there is a provision in the current constitution for a committee to be formed/selected, by the military and their cohorts, to appoint the next group of Senators.

The Senate Transitory Provision clearly state that the selection of Senators shall be taken which in legal terms meant that it is an imperative command indicating actions are mandatory upon term of service expiration. Further the NCPO which was tasked in the constitution for selection and appointment of senators have been dissolved. An amendment is legally required but in what form is everyone guess. By the way, the senators stay in office until a arrival of the new senators.

The country in hostage of 250 nitwits

Nitwits they aren't these are people who have worked hard learning the game and benefitting from the system both legally and shadily.

The last thing they want is a system that has served them well to be changed and possibly lose some of the wealth and power.  Feudal england went through this Pakistan is going through it.  The people with the power want to keep it.

Just St read constitution anyone can apply to be a senator but the actual winners are chosen by a group of knowledgeable people.

As to digital wallets or any legislation unless the Senate gets the right people in the selection group they will not agree to anything and the last thing they will agree to is ant amendment tythe constitution.

The only resolution for the Thai people under this coalition is to demand a referendum on the changes to the constitution.

That or elect MFP with the majority large enough to put it in full power and be able to out vote the Senate.

Make no mistake just like some other ASEAN countries this is a military rich rule

Very valid points. Amendment and even a complete re-write of the constitution will require majority of joint houses votes.

MFP participation can make the senate votes redundant. I think portion of the senates can be brought over to a more democratic constitution but will depend on tough persuasion or benefits. Will have to see where MFP will stand on the issue of the charter versus their party stance to remain as opposition and abstain from voting on this issue.
