Srettha hit with plenty of brickbats for “directionless” policy

Thai politicians are known for their gesture politics which was in full display during the first day of parliamentary debate on the Srettha government’s policy statement on Monday.

 

They took turns to cast doubts and pour scorns on the policy statement which they claimed did not match the election promises made by the political parties in the new ruling coalition government.

 

While Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin believed he was introducing a policy that would bring the country out of the economic doldrums and shape a better future for Thailand, his critics in the chamber dismissed it as nothing more than a wish list and a deception.

This is a man with no political experience, throwing stuff against the wall, and hoping something is going to stick, and someone is going to believe him. So far, he has shown the nation nothing. It will take alot to prove himself, considering the fact that his appointment was less than legitimate, and he was not elected by the people.

A rather heavily watered down version of the earlier promises...

did we expect miracles from PTP

It's not lack of experience.  The problem is that to keep the coalition together and get thaksin home with the special deal he had to sell his soul as well as the people of Thailand.

 

Notice nothing concrete about marijuana to keep anutin happy.  Nothing about art 112 or the constitution to keep the Senate happy.  Nothing about the military to keep the others happy AND nothing about minimum wage or lowering the price of BTS to keep the rich happy.

A by-election in Rayong on Sunday saw MFP increase their vote by 11,000, with 60% of votes cast. A landslide in 4 years?

He is supposedly a successful business man, and as such he should know what a business plan looks like. A policy statement is a government's business plan, it has to describe the policies, their timeline, implementation, funding, impact etc.

He just came up with: I wanna give the people a digital wallet, this will be good for everyone.

What? He truly is like Prayut: I wanna bring back happiness to the Thai people.

In a sense I understand where Prayut's statement came from, he is a nincompoop.

But this guy has a business background...

Only if MFP still exist for the next election. 

The probable scenario is that just before the next election MFP will be attacked  with a slew of legal accusations and get banned leaving them no time to form a new party and jump ship.

They would be very naive not to make a strong contingency plan for this.

The new PM is a pawn amongst some much more powerful players in the political game. Anutin, for one, is dictating policies that suit his own interests. There are many others doing the same.
