On September 12, 2023, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn Jindakannath, the Commander of the National Police Traffic Division, led a team of professional traffic police officers in a remarkable operation. They expedited the delivery of a donated heart from the Somdet Satharanawarat Hospital to the Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok.

On September 11, 2023, at approximately 5:35 PM, the Traffic Police Division received a coordination request from the Organ Donation Center at Somdet Satharanawarat Hospital to transport a life-saving heart, reported Siam Rath.

Despite limited time and heavy rain, the team, including Dr. Sakschai Kraysan as the heart surgeon, decided to transport the heart on a motorcycle. With Pol. Capt. Sakchai Kraysan driving, they raced to the designated hospital.

Amidst pouring rain, both the doctor and the police officers were determined to complete the mission. They received assistance from traffic police along the way and citizens who helped clear the path. This dedication allowed them to succeed in transporting the heart safely.

This mission marked the 73rd successful heart transplant transport conducted by the Thai Traffic Police, showcasing their professionalism, agility, and commitment to public service. It aligns with the National Police's initiative to raise standards for traffic police officers, fostering trust within the community and ultimately reducing road accidents.

Furthermore, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn emphasized that there are still over 6,000 people waiting for organ donations nationwide. He urged the public to consider organ donation as the ultimate act of giving. The Thai Traffic Police, motivated by the spirit of donors, strive to fulfill the hopes of recipients and facilitate life-saving organ transport. For assistance or inquiries, citizens can contact the Traffic Police Division at 1197.

Do what other countries do and have an ‘opt out’ system whereby it is assumed everyone is an organ donor unless they have specifically opted out.

There's no doubt the Thai Traffic Police do a good job.

We continually see their efforts stopping traffic, at each and every intersection along the Sukhumvit and Theprasit roads in peak hours for the dignitaries.

At times driving at stupid speeds through the streets escorting the famous.

I'm amazed that there are not more accidents involving these escorts.

Sadly, when these intersections are blocked, I'm sat there waiting with the other peasants for 10 or so minutes each time. ????

I thought most large hospitals have helipads for exactly that situation...

Somdet Satharanawarat Hospital

Seems another ridiculous transcript/naming.

Not even all knowing Google can find this.

How much developed is medical helicopter transport in Thailand?

How often have you seen one?

Yes, but it was raining remember ( one presumes that the RTAF operates like most air forces).

So pick up your bergen and start tabbing...

Looking at the OP photo, 5 up on the bike is quite impressive. Presumably the heart was in the 7/11 carrier bag!

Joking apart, well done boys!
