I don't have the details of a prior story immediately at hand but remember the cop (LTC I think) who had to flee for his life to Australia to avoid higher-ups' retribution.

IIRC, one of the cops he alleges in that video was, funnily enough, Big Joke. ????

I know he's a high ranking RTP exec, but it seems more than a bit odd that he's got 4 other houses he owns beyond his own that he's supposedly using to provide housing for members of his "team"???

One might ask, how's BJ earning enough money to buy and own 5 houses in Bangkok... And are the other officers getting to live in his houses for free or are they paying rent to him for the accommodations?

Would you ask the same question of farangs and their wives, who own houses and condos in Bangkok and other cities, and rent them out?

Yes, depending on whether they had legitimate sources of income or wealth that would allow them to have acquired them?

And presuming that they didn't already work for what is basically an organized crime organization....

He’s innocent until he is proven guilty…. kinda how that works.. we hope…

I commented earlier that I'd read recently that BJ seemingly was going to be passed over for becoming the next national police chief. And yet several news reports here have suggested he's still in the running, somehow...

Here is the prior news report from about two weeks ago that certainly made it seem as though the new government was going to pick someone else for the next national police chief.

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/pol-gen-roy-tipped-to-be-new-national-police-chief/

Pol Gen Torsak tipped to be new national police chief

September 11, 2023

"In a move, described as a win-win, deputy police commissioner Pol Gen Roy Ingkapairote will be appointed National Security Council (NSC) chief, paving the way for Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol to become the new police commissioner, an informed source said today (Monday).

...

If either of them is promoted to the top police post, replacing Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat who is due to retire at the end of this month, one of them will retire as the deputy commissioner.

“It is likely that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will transfer Roy to be NSC chief and appoint Torsak as the new police commissioner,” the source said."

--------------------

But I guess, it's never a done deal until the PM actually officially picks and appoints someone, and I guess that hasn't happened as yet.

Why?

If they want to tell people that is their choice, not yours.

It is none of your business what other people own or have.

When you work in government service, you often have both legal and moral obligations involving the reporting and disclosure of your finances and assets.

Government officials here in the past have been dismissed from their posts and been prosecuted after one of the several anti-corruption agencies found them and charged them with being "unusually wealthy" -- beyond what normal, legal means would have allowed.

funny as it never ends here in LOS, it is all a BIG JOKE///

Here's a thought flying in the face of many people's opinions.

If he was already wealthy when he joined the RTP doesn't that make him less prone to corruption, because he doesn't need the money.

I am sure this is all a misunderstanding, and there will be no charges lodged against anyone.

You don't miss what you have never had, but once you get used to the lifestyle you always want more. Does the name Thaksin ring a bell ?

How can they afford their high end cars, BMW's, Mercs etc on just a govt, salary ?

Even in the west  a police officer at the same level, earning honestly more, will not be able to such extravagance ?

Why not just pull over each police coppers house in Bangkok or in provinces,

If the house or his cars go beyond what is expected within the financial meany, tjust ake the chap in the police station and ask him/her to explain and show justification of where the cash comes from. Very obvious.

Of course it will never happen after a certain level of top brass. Corruption all over to the highest level.

You are all assuming he is stupid . I for one do not believe he is.

Unless someone shows me proof that he has done anything wrong or senior people in his staff that work directly for him are involved I tend to take this with a grain of salt.

Fairly well-known that people in his staff are connected to a major online gambling set-up, according to the crime editor of Manager. Whether this will be the end of it or whether the money will lead to Big Joke is what he's waiting to see. BJ maybe set this off with that raid some months ago on police officers in Chonburi who had milked an online gambling operation for 140 million baht. It could be retaliation for that. Also the politics involved in the appointment of the new police chief and an opportunity to finish off any chances he had even if he can't be directly connected.

Yes, it does ring a bell, he was a multi millionaire in his own rights before entering politics. Surachate has had a very successful career and has steadily climbed the ladder since age 24, ( 30 years) and is married to a very successful lady.  Try reading the info, it’s all online for you.

Example of the required disclosures:

So such things are the public's business here.... by law... even if what's actually disclosed by the various public officials is probably just a fraction of what they actually have under their control.

Leaving aside the question of whether or not BJ shares in the corruption of the rest of the RTP, I certainly wouldn't put it past his rivals to arrange an opportunistically timed raid aimed at knocking him down a few notches and making it more unlikely he could be chosen as the new national police chief.

Money and power is serious business here.

I pleaded ignorance about Thaksin in another post. I was kindly directed to a number of articles on the web and did some research myself. What I discovered was that he was guilty of

1. Selling his company to a bunch of filthy foreigners

2. Making far too much money from the sale

If the sale had been illegal he wouldn't have been able to sell the company in the first place and any sale would have been reversed (which it wasn't).

He was also guilty of not suffering fools and having drive and vision.

He was guilty of creating the current Thai health service which gave universal healthcare to millions of poorer citizens (again it has not been reversed).

He was extremely guilty of wanting to tax the rich in order to fund social and healthcare for the poor.

Wasn't it legal because he made it legal?

It still could have been reversed and the law (if there was one) struck off the statute books. Such a law would have to be passed (and struck off) by parliament so it was a fair democratic process. What did happen was that the billions of dollars he made which would probably have made him the richest person in Thailand was diverted to 'government' coffers where it could be appropriated by the backers of the military Junta that seized power

So I giess you know full details of his personal finances and property ownership, his family / in laws finances, what property they have all owned for decades etc?

Part of the corrupt game he was very much part of. I'm not a hater or you can't deny the benefits he brought at the beginning of his time. But it was implemented for a very specific purpose and the man had absolutely no interest in democracy, completely setting back the more open and critical media that was just beginning to emerge. Anyway not really the topic under discussion here.

Agreed thanks for the discussion and info. My wife who is Issan doesn't like him she says when she was living in Bangkok she was offered 600 baht to attend a demonstration supporting him, she says he is mafia

Its worrying that a few people actually bought into the fantasy that this guy was some sort of White Knight on a crusade to rid the kingdom of corruption and reform the police.

Worrying that some people can be so easily misinformed and by information from such a limited  and dubious source that being Thai mainstream media or probably more likely the small percentage of it that gets translated.

Of course the guy is corrupt, he's very nearly at the top of one of the most corrupt entities in the world.

How do people think he got there?

Do they really  think he started as a junior constable, and that armed only  with his strong anti corruption ethic and sense of right and wrong  he kind of snitched his way to the top, reporting all the corrupt officers who stood in his way like some sort of super hero?

Well i'm sorry to spoil the fairy tale but that's not how things work here, He would have been identified as a wrong un during basic training and never have made it into the force

He is as corrupt as the rest of them , but either he or who ever is running him is a bit more media savvy than others. It even  seems to have, bizarrely,  got him a few supporters on here yet I don't know any Thais that see him as a saint
