Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin personally greeted the first batch of visitors to arrive in Thailand after it waived visas for Chinese nationals to boost the key tourism industry.


Dancers in traditional costume and puppeteers also put on performances for the bemused visitors, who arrived on a flight from Shanghai. Many stopped to take selfies with the PM.

 

The PM is due to chair a meeting today  to select the new National Police chief from four candidates, that includes Pol General Surachate Hakparn who’s home was raided yesterday…

 

Deputy police chief Torsak Suk-vimon  is tipped to be named the new head of police.

Surachate Hakparn described the search of his home in Bangkok as dishonest and a political maneuver. 
8 police officers and 3 civilians were arrested at other locations, suspected of owning bank accounts used for receiving money before it was transferred to the officers. 

 

The State Railway of Thailand will request cabinet approval for over 50 billion baht in funding to construct a double-track railway from 'Khon Kaen' to 'Nong Khai' a distance of 167 kilometers, and three additional extensions for the Red Line electric train system in Bangkok.

 

And the new terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport is due to open on Thursday, an underground train will connect the new building called ‘Sat-1’ to the main terminal.

The Philippines said it executed a "special operation" to remove a floating barrier installed by China at a prime fishing patch in the South China Sea, a move that could stoke tension.


The Philippines expressed outrage on Sunday and shared images of Chinese coastguard maneuvering a long  barrier near, a rocky outcrop 200km from the Philippines and the site of years of intermittent flare-ups over sovereignty and fishing rights.
