the other things that are yet to appear in the english speaking press, but have been in the Thai press (mainly tv news), is that the cops at the party where the cop was shot were all part of the new top cops team. BJ has been removed from that investigation AND the cops that were arrested have all now been released from custody and are back on duty.

I have seen reference to the fact that the Kamnan Poh shooting investigation was taken away from BJ and given over to the CIB, I believe...

 

But I haven't seen any mention that the police who were arrested in connection with that, per your comment above, supposedly have been released and are back on duty.

It was just in the news here the other day that a large number of them were being charged with crimes for doing nothing in the wake of the shootings.

 

 

"Fifteen police officers who were at the house of Praween Chanklai, aka “Kamnan Nok”, on the night of September 6, when a highway police officer was shot dead and another injured by one of Praween’s bodyguards, will face malfeasance charges in accordance with Section 157 of the Criminal Code.

 

"Pol Lt-Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, told the media at a news conference today (Tuesday) that the 15 officers did not take any action to help the two victims or to arrest the gunman. "

 

 

The odd part is, the above article doesn't say anything about the status of another 6 officers who allegedly helped allow the escape of Poh and the shooting suspect.

 

"The third comprised six officers who allegedly aided in the escape of Praween and the gunman."

The new PM has shown the colours of the new government - they will side with the establishment. If the PM had a reform agenda to try and end corruption, he would have gone for 'Big Joke'.

 

Instead, the PM has gone for more of the same. He continues the tradition of appointing deputies as chief who are in their last year before retirement. The establishment wins all around. The new chief will get a boost to his pension and CV for appointment to prestigious government positions post-retirement. The new Chief of Police will not rock the boat, and will not make any changes to the system, given he will be retiring in a year and has too much to lose.

 

'Big Joke' is probably the least corrupt in the current line-up and, in my view, genuinely wants to reform the police force for the benefit of Thailand, rather than his own benefit.

 

If the Move Forward Party had been allowed to form government there is no doubt whom they would have picked.

Seems YOU are a joke mate. It's NOT his job to convict criminals, he only has to CATCH them and the judge will decide what to do with them ! Which he did on a regular base, like murderers, thiefs, robbers, rapers etc..... All over Thailand. Everywhere he intervened all over LOS, he solved the issue in a short time frame and local police commanders were sacked for doing NOTHING about the cases, probably because there was no money involved in those cases, especially in poor places in the country side. I NEVER read anything about him taking brown envelopes.   ????

Not sure what to make of Big Joke. As Spidermike says, he was definitely pushing an anti-farang agenda when in the Immigration Police so hardly a friend. He also loves the limelight a great deal, that's clear. You seem certain he's not involved in any corrupt activities - the truth is no-one knows. But to get to the top of Thai police you have to pay. Surely you know that. The organisation is rotten to the core. He may be less than the others but hardly akin to one of "The Untouchables" I suspect.

You're the one that's forgotten his actual history. Yes he was making comments about farangs but NOT the type you claim. i think you've got BJ mixed up with the bombastic, hostile, obnoxious, and ignorant statements about foreigners made by Anutin. BJ's were being directed at foreigners who were in the country and didn't meet the requirements to be here and who paid bribes either directly or indirectly via agents to IO's so they could get their extensions, and the changes he made were to eliminate that problem. Yes he was removed from his position, but that was after his car was shot up and anyone with 1/2 a brain knows that's because the changes he made impacted on the flow of brown envelope money up the chain of command. Then like now teh only thing he is guilty of is stepping on too many of the wrong piggies toes at the trough. He was NEVER an embarrassment to the Prayut administration, he WAS the ONLY shining light in that administration.
