Ramaswamy calls transgenderism 'a mental health disorder'

 

 Vivek Ramaswamy says that transgenderism "a mental health disorder" and said it was cruel to "affirm a kid's confusion" about their gender -- in response to a question about parents' rights in schools.

"Transgenderism, especially in kids, is a mental health disorder. We have to acknowledge the truth of that for what it is," the entrepreneur said.

"Parents have the right to know," he went on to say when pushed about parental rights.

"The very people who say that this increases the risk of suicide are also the ones saying that parents don't have the right to know about that increased risk of suicide," he said. "And sorry, it is not compassionate to affirm a kid's confusion, that is not compassion, that is cruelty.

I met two young women, Chloe and Katie, early in this campaign who are in their twenties now regret getting double mastectomies and a hysterectomy. One of them will never have children and the fact that we allowed that to happen in this country is barbaric. So I will ban genital mutilation or chemical castration under the age of 18."

Its the encroachment into female sports/ jails...bathrooms etc that biological women have THE RIGHT to get upset about as well. Do they not? If not, why not?

Un-necessary from Vivek (but quite possibly true). I mean if a black guy came to me and swore blind he was ethnic Chinese, I would probably think he wasn't quite right in the head. Or a 50 year old bloke who said he is actually a cat or a 10 year old girl or whatever, it seems perfectly logical to presume they have some kind of mental health issue.

 

That's not to say I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who think they are the opposite sex and I would never criticize them for it, any more than I would criticize someone with bi-polar or autism. It must be a nightmare for them. I just happen to believe it is rooted in mental health. In fact, I genuinely cannot think of another explanation other than some kind of re-incarnation gone wrong, but I'm not 100% convinced of re-incarnation either.

 

The fact that sometimes they transition and then later decide they were wrong to transition and they are actually their biological sex leads me further to believe it's a mental health issue. If it wasn't how could they ever regret the transition?

Personally I haver zero interest in defining, or imposing what I think a person can, should, or must be.

 

If a person wishes to be whatever they are then that is their choice.

 

If a child identifies as a sex other than their physical being shows then a loving and accepting attitude is preferred to one of seeing the child as disordered.

The psychiatric DSM manual has historically been suspect and controversial regarding many so-called disorders defined and listed.

The matter of hormonal and gender reassignment/affirmation surgery for children is a contentious and prickly issue, and an issue on which I once again defer to the individual family to ponder. 

 

The noted and quoted character in the article is just one of the newest iterations of a GOP creep who is seeking his own power not the care of others.

How is it homophobia? Gay and trans are very different things. 

 

From what I have read, there is definitely a mental health component to being trans. Gender dysphoria, auto gynephelia, certainly depression and anxiety disorders... I guess the takeaway is that care that "affirms" the person claiming to be trans is not necessarily the best option.  I can't think of too many other mental health conditions where the accepted treatment is to accept the delusion of the patient as being real.
