Ultimately forums like this are a dying breed.

The world has moved on.

X, Tiktok, Instagram the list goes on is how folks interact nowadays.

Remember Myspace? That was the place back in the day, now no one under 40 knows what you are talking about.

Platforms have their day in the sun, but the sun will set, and that I think is what we are seeing for AN.

Obviously I have no data to support this, but I'd speculate that the vast majority of users are 60+ and as the sun sets on those users, I doubt their shoes will get filled by younger ones.

It's still fun, although I use it less than I used to, but the writing is on the wall.

Good Luck with selling it by the way, selling ice to eskimos springs to mind!

Totally agree! It has been highjacked by a hard core of approx. 12 idiots/Bots/paid for posters who may be increasing the "click count" but are ruining the site!

  • The fun has been lost.   We used to have fun posts about sightings of Michelin men and Mountain Dew and the like.   Now almost every post degrades into pages of off topic bickering

Very true.  But I'd say that, like for most of its members, this Forum still has another 5-10 years to go.

Forum Admins work hard to renew this forum.

Root Admin George has recently opened opp for full dialog with members. That is a tremendously positive step, and admins response show that they listen and consider what members have to say.

I disagree that members are mostly age 60+. Many members who joined this year, seems to be much younger, writing style is a indication.

I have met many younger expats who work here in Thailand, they all read this forum.

Forums have replaced newspapers, many like to read and discuss.

I can see a future for forums, who follow the trends, and are quick to adopt. That will keep also younger people interested.

I imagine with full time staff well  over 40-50 ,and two or 3 office  floors in Bangkok they aren't doing too bad !

I presume you'd include facethingy  in that, or is that obsolete too?

Given the choice of using any of that sort of thing or death, I'll happily choose death.

That's because of my opinion of people that do use them.

All those staff and they couldn't find time to reply to my e mails!

Eventually I gave up trying to get a response. I laugh when I see that notice about contacting Admin if one has a problem.

Seems they don't like to go on world news or The Pub though. Seems like it's always the same small group of posters doing most of the posting.

Talk to the kids.

The boys and girls I work with, I am old enough to their Grandad for the most part.

For them facebook doesn't even come in to the conversation, thats just for the old folks.

Things move so fast now that what was once the place to be is now consigned to history

Oh and btw, Instagram is called Instagram, you just gotta call it 'insta'

Get with the program people

Everything ends. Remember Betamax VDO players? When I bought mine it cost a small fortune and I thought it was great. Now it's all about stealing movies off the internet.

The Thailand forum I was on before this was the Thorn Tree, but that died with covid.

What would be better, I don't know. I like being anonymous, as I can say things I'd never ever say if people knew my real name.

Facethingy is run by that guy starting with Z, and given my opinion of him I won't use it, and likewise with X.

Tik Tok; isn't that something young girls show how they can't dance on ?

I agree that things move fast now, except with great things like real records. Who'd a thought they'd still be popular now?

Actually, things are moving so fast that it seems like the human race is simply rotating ever faster up it's own orifice, and it's not going to end well.

The problem with this foium is that it has become a haven for right wing extremists and hate speech, far beyond what any reasonable person might consider to be fair comment. I have dramatically reduced my participation as a result.
