Never go with prostitutes.

Always use condom.

Take PrEP.

In a relationship/married, not a concern.

 

Recently I observed 2 expat acquaintances age 60+. They both picked up 2 women of the night. Not in a bar, not in Walking Street, but from Coconut bar. Nothing wrong with that, if one take precautions. 

However both these expats say they always go bareback, never wear a condom. Even they've been here for 15+ years, they take the risk, but they should know better 

 

The 2 women they picked up was the bottom of the barrell.  Not clean clothes, drunk, one had noticeable dirty teeth, some was missing (meth?) 

Maybe sleeping on the beach / outdoors, and addiction problems.

 

These 2 expats have money, not on a budget. They dine in good restaurants and spend money.

If they actually go bareback, no PrEP, is this what jaded bored people do, or is this a death wish?

Reading this, I remembered ANN.

 

Let me tell you about Ann.

Ann is a beautiful slim 160/40 Thai lady in her late 30's but she look much younger. And dress provokingly, very sexy. Guys often say she's a 9 or 10.

Ann is everywhere, soi Buakhao, Walking Street and sometimes Coconut Bar. There she often play loud music and dancing like a performer (she's that good).

Ann is a freelancer who is known for go short time for 500 only, no condom required. She was busy, to say the least.

 

Some time ago I met one of Ann's girlfriends. I hadn't seen Ann around the city for months, so I asked where is Ann? She replied, Ann is in Banglamung Hospital, she had visited her there last week. What is wrong, I asked?

AIDS, was her reply.

 

1 month later I met Ann's gf again, who informed me that Ann had passed away ... 

RIP Anne.

 

(Sorry for use 'is' about Ann, rather than 'was'. Was done not to spoil the sad end of Ann).

 

I been living alone 5 years now, and at age 60, libido are declining. More into relationship than a quickie that doesn't give me what I need and want, a relationship.

Yeah I hear anecdotally that many older farang don't use condoms or use PrEP, they won't admit it on here though, they also don't get tested.

 

I use PrEP plus recently started doxy PEP, get testing every 4 months when I pick up the PrEP.

 

HIV is more difficult to catch than people think but still I wouldn't take their risk 

I don't remember the exact statistics, but for a man getting AIDS from sex with a woman in very low.

If a guy has sex with let's say 1000 women, and 10% of them have AIDS, the statistic not to get AIDS is still in his favor.

 

Never used condoms, or PrEP, as outrageously expensive in USA, and actually never 'approved' until, I moved here anyway, and don't bother with anyway.   So no real precautions takin here.   Though don't P4P either.  Reckon that lowers the risk, but count myself as extremely lucky, as never an issue.

 

50+ yrs of recklessness, so that's extremely lucky.

 

18 of the 23 yrs here, in a monogamous relationship, though did enjoy my weekends when a single parent.  While wee one getting her Thai freak on with grandparents.  So very multi cultural (Christian (school) & tri-lingual (fluent in 3 languages) .

This has just been posted on Facebook, good current story, farang with AIDS, didn't know, probably didn't bother getting tested, stuck in private hospital no money to cover it etc etc

FYI you get HIV and if undetected it leads to AIDS as has happened in the example link above

I guess we both know some who don't have insurance, or self insure, with little actual savings.

Private hospital might charge 70,000 - 80,000 per day, in ICU. 

Few expats know that, or don't want to think about it, and plan ahead.

Add-on surgery and possible complications, Thailand is not a place to live without proper insurance, with high coverage from age 60+

 

My own experience from different hospitals are that private hospitals are more expensive than one could imagine.

 

HIV AIDS is a topic people tend to avoid, then some have a stupid lifestyle with unprotected sex (often anal), and no PrEP.

 

I don't know how much 1 months of PrEP costs, and if this is available in most pharmacies, or only in Hospitals?

Maybe you can inform about this.

I don't think HIV/AIDS is covered in health insurance, so people should check their policy doc exclusions.

 

PrEP isn't available at pharmacies as tested is required at the same time as buying. A shady pharmacy did offer me it but that's just one. It's about 400 baht a month for generic thai or Indian PrEP from Bangkok Red Cross incl testing HIV & Creatinine. Apparently it's available from Pulse clinic probably much more expensive. Hospitals like BPH sell the very expensive original Travuda for maximum profit

 

 

Whilst the stats make it seem highly unlikely, what matters the most - and you could never know - is how high the viral load is at time of 'meeting'
 

If the person was recently infected / untreated they could have a viral load in millions of copies per ml.  This person would be highly infectious - couple that with non-circumcised (mucous mebranes can absorb), or cut in the mouth or elsewhere - you will probably be infected.

Someone who's on treatment with an undetectable viral load - very low (basically zero) chance of transmission.

Yes but typically those type of farang don't get tested, thinks it doesn't effect them, or too old to care, how many people has he infected?

At my age if I got HIV I would die of very old age before I got aids ,, I also lived for 14 years with a woman who has HIV and i never got it ,,, she died  in a M/c accident

You sure? It can take as little as 2 years to progress to AIDS, just depends on the persons immune system

People with a CD4 of less than 200  (the "turning point" for aids) have, with medication have increased their CD4 count back to normal levels

Some older guys share that mindset, and have no idea or concern about how painful the last part before dying of AIDS, will be.

 

Many say the little fella go numb when a condom comes on. Many guys feel the same. But get tested and be on PrEP.

 

The 2 guys I mentioning in OP is major mongers, eat ED pills like candy, out chasing next freelancer from 9 am until late.

Thin, bad teeth, some missing.  6 months ago she had 5-7 st daily.

Since last month she lay on the ground most of the day for 2 weeks, then suddenly she was fine for a week (steroid)? then lately she can hardly walk again.  Move slowly, clearly in pain, hold on her kidney and liver, maybe alcohol related, maybe more severe ..
