Saudis can't even hit an open goal at the end.

Not a good game, but proably a popular result (except here in Saudi)

It seems to me most people cannot face reality. When reality is pointed out, people do not know how to deal with it.

If people just try to answer my questions directly probably they will see how contradicting their beliefs are. And don't tell me that you people think I will eat dogs and cats!

Oh yes meemiathai, ever the realistic, intelligent sensible, sensitive, caring, empathetic individual. Always looking for the balanced argument. I don't know what we'd do without you!

And of course, we, all of us in Bedlam, are full of contradictions and folly. We’re so glad that we have you to put us straight!

Thanks meemithai for being such a great guy!

You are welcomed.

Eating dogs and cats is especially repulsive to Westerners as we see these animals as pets. Dogs especially are always seen as "man's best friend" and have been our protectors and aides since ancient times when we domesticated and bred them from wolves.

Unfortunately, other cultures are less concerned by this, and see our pets as sources of protein only.

Similarly and conversely, a lot of those cultures would be similarly horrified by images of cows packed choc-a-bloc into grain lots, knee-deep in their own <deleted>, and braying in terror at their fate (they do know whats coming, apparently). And then the shocking production-line brutality of the abattoirs and meat processing plants. Meat really is murder. But it tastes ######ing good though. :o

How right you are, it does taste good.

However, i know what you mean but can it really be defined as murder? I'm no lawyer so i don't know if this is the correct terminology in law. But if we look at a lion in the jungle who has just killed some prey to eat, we never say it is a muderer.

Is murder just killing someone / something of your own species? Or does it cross into killing other species?

Yesterday I murdered a mushroom & a cauliflower! :D I even muredered a spreadsheet I was working on..... :o

Actually, a lot of meat doesn't taste very good and some vegetarian food does.

I mostly rather eat a lot of GOOD vegetarian food and a little bit of excellent quality meat from time to time. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of good veggie restaurants with different cuisines around.

Stop niggling you lot and get stuck into your burgers or salad or whatever.

Me, I'm just sitting down to some juicy Brie on rye and half a cantaloupe melon.

For dinner it's chicken curry and a bottle of Riesling.

What meat doesn't taste good?

Love lamb, pork, beef, mutton and have eaten snake, duck, chicken, dog, buffalo, insects and several flies when I have been walking round with my mouth open.

And our latest treat here in isolation :

Can't say I went for the boiled stinging nettles much (see earlier post) or for drinking the cabbage water, but there are good veg too - roast spuds with meat - broccoli with meat - brussels with meat (I forgot turkey above!) - salad with meat. In fact - all sorts of veg with meat.

What meat doesn't taste good?

Most beef and a lot of pork in SEA is tough and tasteless, although there are some places with really good smoked ribs. The chicken is OK, but not that great.

I rather eat good vegetarian food if it were generally available and some really good meat or fish as a treat once in a while.

Chicken is an also-ran for me.

Can't get good lamb in LOS - but maybe that's just 'coz the wife doesn't bother.

But that doesn't mean that the basic feedstock isn't good - just that the processing leaves something to be desired.

In Saudi the lamb is fair, but as everything is halal we get used to the toughness of the beef.

(By the way - forgot horse and whale in my previous list of meat to eat).

Like fish but not allowed seafood (shell-fish and crustaceans) due to incipient gout.

You can get good lamb in LOS (imported from NZ/AUS) of course it costs a fair bit, but is generally of good quality. I/we have a BBQ leg of lamb at least every 2 weeks, and at 650-900 baht per leg, it is not that much more expensive than Aussie..

I too have eaten whale, ultra rare in a peppercorn sauce - yummy!

I have also eaten turtle, (not an endangered one, I checked!) tasted like beef.

Ostritch, and of course kangaroo. Both like top quality beef (both need to be lightly cooked, rare to medium rare).

Puffin was also delicious!

Wasn't there a thread in Bedlam fairly recently called, something like, 'the most interesting thing you've eaten?

I didn't like Kangaroo. I thought it was a bit well stringy if you know what i mean.

Oh and i couldn't stop thinking of Skippy :o:D

Wild Boar and Bear meat stew in Estonia, was rather interesting to say the least !

But isn't that like cannibalism ? I thought sheep were considered a part of the family in the Antipodes.

"Wot's thet, Skip?" :D

Funnily enough, I was watching an old "Flipper" show a while back and wondering what dolphin meat tastes like.... I mean activists complain that dolphins get caught up in the nets during tuna fishing. Why not the other way 'round? :o

:o Funny, I kept thinking of skippy too! However, the meat I had was top q, no stringy bits at all!

I have eaten wild boar, gamey pork it tasted like! I had forgotten crocodile, which was okay, again a sort of bacon flavour. I'm sure there are others as I am well travelled and will try anything twice!

Oh, also there was a South African restaurant in Sevenoaks where I went a lot on business. You big meat eaters would have loved it!

Kangaroo has to be cooked rare, literally thrown on the grill turned and eaten. Totally fat free.

And there's more in Australia now than before Captain Cook arrived; they love all that cleared grazing land.

Is that enough to stop the bugger jumping around on your plate? :o
