The concept of having Chinese police patrol with Thai counterparts in Thailand has met with a mixed reaction with those in Pattaya expressing support.

Rumpueng ‘Lisa’ Hamilton, president of the Pattaya Night Business Association, said that she agrees with the idea, as she believes that it would build up confidence for Chinese tourists in terms of safety.

“When I talk to my Chinese friends, they express concern about their safety and possible conflicts with Thai police while visiting Thailand. Thai police might group them together with other Chinese who are involved in illegal activities in Thailand,” Rumpueng said.

She believes that the presence of Chinese police would help clear up possible misunderstandings and suppress the illegal activities by the Chinese.

Meanwhile Jitsupa Prajongbua, a Thai tour guide, said that it would give the Chinese tourists more confidence in their safety, adding “I am confident that more Chinese tourists will visit Thailand if the concept is implemented.”

So “Lisa” Hamilton  believes Chines tourists would have confidence in Chinese Police while they are in Pattaya?  “Conflict” with Thai Police while as aforeign visitor is in Thailand?  Does this “logic” apply now to all foreigner visitors?  Next time I go to Pattaya I want officers from the LAPD to patrol the streets to ensure my safety.  Truly this is an example of “TIT.

It started decades ago.

The whole plan has been binned. There was no way the Thai's were going to tolerate it - and certainly not any other foreign tourists. Other than that, it would have been constitutionally illegal under Thai law anyway.

In other news, I hear that China's attempt to prevent Thai media from discussing Taiwan has also been given the middle finger salute.

Totally irrelevant as PM Srettha denies this has even been up for questioning.

Chinese trust their cops?

Glad I won't be around I remember those videos of Chinese police beating people during Covid cause they wanted some freedom.  Good luck Pattaya.

So two unknown people in Pattaya express their thoughts on having Chinese police patrols, and so the headline reads "Pattaya expressing support"..couldn't be further from the truth.

Some Pattaya Business Operators Want Chinese Police to Patrol City’s Tourist Spots
By Tanakorn Panyadee

Pattaya —Some business operators in Pattaya have come out to back the now-abandoned idea of inviting Chinese police to patrol tourist hotspots in Thailand, which aimed to enhance the confidence of Chinese travelers.

Although the possibility of the proposal originally mentioned by the Tourism Authority of Thailand has now been completely ruled out by the government and the Prime Minister has been continually denying it would ever happen after intense criticism online, some private tourism operators in Pattaya still wish for the idea to materialize due to the decline in Chinese visitors.

On Tuesday, November 14th, Mrs. Lamphueng ‘Lisa’ Hamilton, the chairperson of the Pattaya Nightlife Business Association, told Thai media that having Chinese cops patrol Pattaya tourist areas is a good idea because the collaboration will help build confidence especially in terms of safety among Chinese visitors.

If they want Chinese folks on patrol, why not have them join the Thai Tourist police volunteer group?

Letting the Chinese patrol as their own force is absurd.

No need to worry, they're not coming.

Maybe the next rumour will be Russian police in Phuket?

Right, its only their version of the truth?

don't worry, they will be a permanent fixture in the not too distant future (crystal ball gazing face)

Two unknown people who both aren't Chinese, both stand to gain (baht) from more Chinese tourists - but don't necessarily have any idea how actual Chinese tourists would view this. My guess is not favorably - part of the reason they come here is to let go and be free from Big Brother at home - shoving Chinese cops up their throats will probably lead to LESS tourists, not more.

Not surprising!

Pattaya, it is clear they cant manage it is nothing but window dressing by leadership.

The whole system is already brought and pay for by the Triads so why not support. Immigtation handed out the second most illegal visa last few months tops position have been all replaced.

The grey business case as I noted have been quietly slip under the rug and the Chinese run club has been rename 79, up and running again LOL. It isnt grey business but business as usual.

Some Canadian RCMP on horseback might do more to help tourism. The horses would be quite the sight with the mounted police in their red uniforms. They would be great at chasing down street thieves.

I would have personally welcomed the Chinese counterpart as they cannot be more corrupt than those local crooks

I want police then from the US and Europe.

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY BAD IDEA AND WAS NEVER AGEED ON BY THAILAND

Boy they really must have cherry picked these responses.

I live in Pattaya and I'm very much against any foreign police force, especially China, being here in Thailand.

It's a horrible idea. Glad they sh*t canned it.

California Highway Patrol would be better.

Totally Agree.

Lets have the L.A.P.D  and  the Met..... police while we're at it...

Plainly obvious that "Lisa" and her mates will do anything to get the Chinese $$$$$. Can you imagine the outcry if it was suggested that British Tourists are protected by British Police, or Russians by Russian Polce. OK, we all know that the Thai police force is largely unfit for purpose, but allowing the Chinese police in to spay at will (and they will be spies!!) is almost incomprehensible. How could you possibly think of allowing the representatives of a fascist state into Thailand? Its almost like allowing the SS to come to UK in the late 1930s to protect marches by the British Union of Fascists!!

Anyway, the idea looks firmly to have been ditched by now.
