I cant make out of the pickup truck driver is one of the dead.  If not dead, then he should be charged with multiple murders, tried quickly and publicly, and then executed.  Commute that sentance to life in jail with no chance of ever being released - no royal pardon eligible.  If it happens again in the next few months - do not commute the sentence.

That is the only thing that will reduce this type of thing happening in Thailand - if they realise that they will be charged with murder and will go to jail and could be executed if they kill someone. The ultimate loss of face to them and their family.

Thailand has harsh laws - this is a situation where they can be used for the benefit of all Thais (and visitors). If the opportunityy is there, then the time is right for the Thai Govt to make an example of this a**hole.

I wonder what the pickup drivers on this forum, of which there are many, think of your nonsense claim!?

You can't make out that he didn't murder anyone, either.

Same with the van drivers I have hired a van 3 times now with 9 family members and that driver was as safe as any drivers in the west, no running red lights keeping to speed limits, stopping on pedestrian crossings when needed.

Drunk while in charge of a vehicle causing death - vehicular homicide - murder.

Same as someone that closes their eyes and turns and fires a gun - not actually aiming at anyone but kills someone - criminal negligence causing death - murder.

So here is the real story regarding this incident. There was NO motorcyclist involved in the crash, only a parked M/C. The driver was uninjured but very drunk at 240  milligrams per cent.

Read the full story here.  Drunk and drive! Pickup truck loses control and collides with motorcycle

It's not pick ups ,motorcycles, trucks ,cars,or buses, it's the complete lack of driving skills, drunk driving,  and NO law enforcement .

Laughing means different things in different cultures. Thai's laugh out of sadness or other things.

Correct I was talking to 3 female sales assistants last week, in the store Channel 32 was reporting an accident in which  one year old kid was killed, they were smiling and laughing about it, that's just their way.

So the poster who thinks eight people getting needlessly killed was amusing ,  is  a Thai ?

I have lots of Thai friends and not one of them thought there was anything to laugh about in this news.

No, not nothing..............government ministers will make announcements that this or that will be done to improve road safety, then nothing will change.

No big are changes are really necessary, one fairly minor change, minor in description but major if applied, is all that's needed to cut these tragedy's very quickly.  That change is for the police to start actually get out of their stations and start enforcing the law.

Thailand is no longer 'third world', it has a set of laws, the people to enforce those laws and the courts to administer punishments for those caught breaking them.  The system falls at the first hurdle though because it seems, that other than pull pick-up trucks over at checkpoints, looking for god knows what and 'fining' scooter riders 50 baht for not wearing helmets, the police do little else.

I honestly have no idea what the Thai police do when it comes to any crime - apart from writing out that all important 'Police Report'.

Whereas I make sure that my licence, insurance an tax is up to date - because in my home country I know I will suffer large penalties if I don't, Thai people know that there is very little chance of them getting caught if they don't take care of the same items.  Even when they are caught, a small 'fine' that, shall we just say, doesn't go where it should do, is all that's needed to get out of their situation.

They bring out the new points based penalty system for driving licences (most Thai's have never heard of it) and introduce it to a population that knows very well that you don't need a licence to drive in Thailand. The going rate for 'leaving your licence at home' is 200 baht and there is no requirement to present your licence at the police station later.

The whole thing is just a bloody joke but its a joke where all too often, the punchline proves to be fatal.

I think that some people think it is just laughable that these kind of drunk drivers just continue to cause carnage here, and nothing will ever change, even the fines are a joke. just saying, 3 month ban if they even have a license.

Really last I heard it is just a 3 month ban for DUI and only if your poor.

Two things.

1.  Khrapp - I missed the handcuffs - thanks.

2.  Ignore my comments about commuting his sentence - execute the bast####  Talk about a complete and utter lack of remorse - even drunk he should show some humanity in him over what he has done.
