When done with the Dr a nurse would accompany me to the cashiers window on the next floor and didn't leave until my payment was completed. It got to the point where I almost said something like "whats up don't you trust me?" and then I realized that they don't! It pissed me off because my insurance company at the time paid out well over 1 mil previously for bypass surgery. After checking the thick invoice I noticed the bill was well and truly padded.pricks I visit a private hospital bi-monthly. After docs/specialists visited... I make my own way to the cashier... I could walk out the front door if I wanted, but insurance covers OPD so I just wonder over to cashier and sign.... then collect my meds. 1

Yes people die in hospital right next to you that's life. By the way I haven't 'wiped' my ass for near on 20yrs. 😱

Ricky HKT Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 I have used the services (heart stress test, blood testing) at Vachira Hospital. Excellent service and great staff. My wife had an operation there (removed a salivary gland). Excellent Doctor, surgery, results. Good and fast services. I personally know some of the nurses and staff. Kind and hardworking people. The facilities may look a bit dated, but it is a government facility which serves the Phuket province, other provinces, and foreigners. Sorry, but this like a hit job on the hospital. For what purpose? 2

Wonderful, kind, happy guy. Life screwed him over. I don't know about his insurance in Vietnam, but they were welding doors closed, according to him. 1
jerrymahoney Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 The bill was said to be 10,000 pounds and the GoFundMe raised 10,000 pounds -- fund started by his friend who is with him there in Phuket.
Popular Post Old Croc Posted December 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 1, 2023 Firstly, a few years ago the government retrospectively added a criterion for extensions to the O-A visas to include bogus health insurance payable only to a select few Thai insurance companies. This stemmed from complaints from Vachira hospital that foreigners had departed leaving a few million baht in unpaid bills. The govt was unwilling to seek compensation from short term visitors so unfairly placed the burden on a small proportion of non-immi long stay residents. Does any of this money flow back to the hospital? Secondly, it's reported this man has a low platelet count, an immune system problem that results in a thinning of the blood. As the treatment requires many transfusions it would not be at all unusual for this thin blood to soil the sheets. I have a medical condition that requires me to undergo regular bloodletting. Occasionally, during the process, blood gets on the sheets even in top level facilities. This huge, very busy, public hospital wouldn't be able to constantly change bed linen. If you want 5-star treatment, go to the excellent private hospital a short distance down the road. If the sight of poor Thai people dying in your crowded ward offends, at least pay for a private room. Thirdly, if your lifestyle choices (see pic of huge beer gut) result in medical problems which you probably ignore, but instead go on a hedonistic holiday without travel insurance, blame yourself, not that country's health system. If you want dunny paper, buy some, poor Thais generally don't use it. Any of the staff or other patients' family visitors, would be happy to assist for a couple of baht. Don't turn such an idiotic thing into an international whinge or form part of your fund raiser! 1 2 1
phetpeter Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Sure the hospital is busy, drunks in various situations, etc. But looking at the photos and reading the story, I can't work out the timeline. But in the photos, he seems to be in A&E section and has no IV or needle drip points. As to having more blood infusions than the body holds. with no photos of him in ICU. An Essex lad who thinks he can drink the world dry, eat anything, Drink water from the tap in Thailand. And the fact he states he will go to A&E when he returns home? As to the bill I really believe that is way over the top, and unlikely that the hospital which is a government place. It only cost me 2600 pounds for in hospital treatment plus a stent when I had a heart attack, and that included two bags of blood.

There has been blood on the cover since he got there. There’s no toilet roll, you just wash with a hose.” Shockingly, Penson’s roommates are succumbing to their illnesses just feet away, with no privacy or dignity in their final moments. That is bull<deleted>. Thai government hospitals are clean. Comforts are basic, but wounds are not left undressed and blood certainly not allowed to pool on the floor. I was in one (Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital) for several weeks a couple of years ago. The surgery and medical care was excellent, it was clean, comfort was basic, the food was awful! A couple of people on my ward died whilst I was there. They were screened off, and nurses were with them. There families stayed with them. They were given privacy and treated with dignity. I was allowed a visit from a priest to hear my confession and give me "extreme unction", ( It was a bit touch and go for the first few days); I was given privacy and afforded as much dignity as possible - a nurse assistant even gave me a wash and shave before he came. No one even mentioned money until the day before my discharge. Then a lady from the finance office came and arranged a payment plan. The cost, bearing in mind I had two bouts of surgery, was not excessive. Not even 10% of what this report is talking about. 2 1
Wullie Mercer Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 400.000 Baht will not evencover the basic treatment for Leukemia, went through and now in remission( for last 12 years) total cost was 13.5 million baht and took almost 1 year. Ship him back to UK.
