Wrist Surgery Specialist

Featured Replies

I have a bone spur or ganglion cyst

(not sure which) on the underside of my wrist. I've had it for many years but recently it has caused a lot of pain as it seems to be on the nerve.

Looking for a recommendation on a specialist surgeon as it's in a tricky location with nerves and artery. Thank you.

2,200 for a consultation. That's more than Bumrungrad... 2600 including nurse fee

260,000 baht quote for removing some calcifications in wrist. ( I think blocking the nerve, so no general anaesthesia)  requres 2 nights stay at the hospital....why!?

I asked to be seen as a local, not international, ( if that made any difference.

Seems excessively high cost.

I can't see reason for overnight stay unless general anesthesia planned (and even then  1 night should do).

From whom exactly did you get these price quotes?  If by email, these tend to be inaccurate and inflated.

Get direct ftom Dr.

If you already did that, look into having it done at Thonburi Hospital instead. Same Dr is there.

Did your 2 200 baht visit include Xrays? (Would usually need Xray to diagnose bone spurs as cause)

Someone called me about a half hour after I left. ( not the doctor)

No, just a simple meeting with the doctor. I already had an x ray and I showed it to him. ( It was from BKK Christian Hospital - which is the best value private hospital I've been to in BKK)  but perhaps lacking specialist doctors in this area....

I feel like these hospitals see that you have insurance and put these crazy fees on. The problem is my insurance usually covers much lower prices and quotes.

I feel like I will need to choose another doctor at a different hospital. Any other recommendations?

If you have insurance which would cover this, I'd tell them to send a request for Guarantee of Payment to your insurer and inform you once they have it.  Let the insurance company sort it out with the hospital, very common for prices to be negotiated at that stage and no reason for you to be directly involved. If the insurer is at all capable they will certainly nix the 2 night stay, to start with, and demand an itemization of costs and then scrutinize that.

Alternatively arrange to have it done by same doctor at Thonburi Hospital, cost is sure to be less.  But Thonburi may have less experience dealing with insurers, especially if it is international insurer.

Or, if you want to do this at BCH, they do have a hand specialist, I have no feedback on hm but looks well qualified   https://bch.in.th/find-doctor/41

Thank you, that's very useful information.

It's a Thai insurance company, basic enough cover I think, provided with my work here. Much less than what an international cover would provide.

You could start then by  telling the hospital to contact the insurer for guarantee of payment, see what happens.

International insurers negotiate, and would certainly zero straight in on the 2 night stay, for example. Thai insurers are less sophisticated and often lack medically trained staff, so might not know what to look at and just say "too much money". See what happens, if it doesn't resolve then either Thonburi hosp same doc, or doc I mentioned at BCH.

Mission Hospital have two VERY good orthopedics.

I have used both with excellent results.

Today one of them fixed up my broken wrist.
