maddermax
Some people have no scruples and will do anything for money. Hope the animals can recover and lead a happier life. It is the Chinese desire for tiger parts which fund such activities. 1

It's just that this has gone unexposed for far too long. Parts of the world are moving away from battery chickens - I don't know about Thailand. Here in UK one can buy free-range eggs, for example. The only SMALL saving grace is that the chickens are at least there for food - does NOT mean it's OK though. The tigers were there for so-called "entertainment". 🤬

Tiger parts have been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for centuries. Tiger bones treat ulcers, typhoid, malaria, dysentery, burns and even rheumatism. Other parts, like its whiskers, are worn as talismans or protective charms or used to sooth toothaches. Its penis is sold as a sexual tonic, and its skin is valued as a trophy or worn in clothing as a symbol of wealth. I suspect that the NGO was encouraged to 'go in' to avoid an official government raid which would have required some awkward explanations. It's a government department authorising the removal - all tigers are technically owned by the government. In this case the authorities have "appointed" WFFT to handle the situation because previous exercises like this were such a mess.
steven100
The only reason the authorities acted was because of local peer pressure and NGO pressure as well as the envelopes stopped coming ...... hence the local Government official had to do something. As you say most died there from some disease. When the tigers were first sent there they put a big billboard out on the road asking for donations to take care of the tigers. quake
This story does seem a bit strange, these animals are worth a lot of money as parts. connda
God-damn. These "Tiger Farms" exist because the Thai government allows them to exist. First in a "Tiger Farm." Then in a "Tiger NGO." Fools. Everyone. All of these animals belong in a preserve. Fat chance. Then - some corporate head decides he is above the law and decides to go hunting. <slap slap slap> <--- The sound to wet bamii noodle slapping the back of the billionaire's hand. It's a farm - so it is a business for producing tigers - many females are kep alive for speed breeding - so long as they can produce a chain of litters they are proitable - the males are required for sperm. If ever you see pigs suckling cubs and tigresses suckling pigs, this is part of the speed breeding process. Many tiger farms have "wineries" behind or near them - these are for the processing of tiger carcasses into TCM. Animals dont have to be looking good for farming only the nes in public view are kept groomed etc. 1 1

kwilco
Science dictates nothing it proves... the key is scepticality or critical thinking. the problem being with wildlife in Thailand, the authorities don't subscribe - they believe in tradition. THe most common argument for instance with elephants is a fallacious appeal to antiquity - "as we've had elephants for thousands of years, we must be right?" This is the kind of thinking that is destroying Thai ecology.
