Already been done, it was called the Strategic Defense Initiative ( SDI ) back in the eighties.

No doubt Trump will claim credit for that too.

Perhaps he will put on an extra layer, with bleach sprayers.

That way, he can have white people, and still get cheap labor.

You do realize that SDI was a complete technical failure. This was one of the great debates of 40 years ago, with Republican advocating for strategic defense, and the Democrats for point defense.

Point defense won the day.

Because of the INF, we never developed long range point defense. Bummer.

What a completely inane idea. Do you have any idea how big an undertaking that would be?

The border itself is nearly 2,000 miles long (currently 700 of which is covered by a wall). It's across mountainous regions, deep valleys and deserts. The cost for construction would be in the trillions and the cost of keeping it manned would over the years match that. You would also have to acquire private land from American citizens which would not only mean that some would lose land that has been in their family for generations, but again it would cost a fortune.

Couple that with the fact that 50% of illegal immigrants arrive by air and you start to see just how stupid an idea the border wall really was and how it was just a dog whistle to Trumps more racist supporters.

It may have been a technical failure. However, it also was a considerable factor in the breakup of the Soviet Union.

I guess facts are not your strong suit. Trillions ???. But ya all sure are good at digging up "reasons" why it won't work. That is a task for the Army Corps of Engineers. Maybe ya all should do some searching on this  border invasion/disaster. Get educated in stead of making cheap potshots from your obliviouness

IMO that would be a brave judge ( and probably not mind going into "witness protection" after ) to put Trump in jail "just because".

School mass murders have happened in the US for less.

You may be right, America is a highly polarised society. And a sick one, when it has gun laws that enable said murders of children.

Trump is a bully, all bullies are cowards. IMO he would fold like a wet tissue if jailed. Remember, this is the guy that got out of military service due to "bone spurs". They don't seem to impede his golf.

Not surprisingly, as Moscow is probably bankrolling him.

You have zero proof of that, and it's more likely just the usual BS from the Trump haters than fact.

IMO if Trump stops supporting Ukraine on day one, he'd be doing the right thing. America should IMO never have got involved in some European spat. The Europeans have been fighting each other as long as there have been countries on that continent.

There's no proof. There is a lot of rumor. Anyone seeing Trump with Putin at Helsinki saw monumental @ss-kissing.

Effectively, you are approving the genocide of Ukrainians. That makes you one sick and twisted person, goodbye.

A myth.

The Soviets never invested seriously in Strategic Defense. They played around with lasers, and put up a 100 ton decoy, but mostly to entice the US to spend more money on SDI.

Because the USSR understood orbital mechanics.

OK, what was it the Soviets did not understand, that caused the breakup?

Hint: Russian GDP in 1988 was $550 billion, US GDP in the same year was 5.2 trillion.

Trump takes the stage in Portsmouth NH and delivers this gem:

“I just met non-liquid gold.

It’s called corn!

They have.

it’s– it’s non-liquid.

You know, it’s a pretty cool thought, isn’t it?

That ‘s a nickname.

We came to you with a new word.

A new couple of words for corn.”

Imagine for a moment Biden had come up with that rambling brain mush nonsense, we would not hear the end of it.

Time to start talking more about Trump’s brain health, it’s way past time voters were told why Trump was rushed to the Walter Reid Hospital in the middle of the night to be administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test.

Get the ‘non liquid gold’ ready!

Just as I predicted Trump has lied about Haley getting help in New Hampshire.

When it comes to Trump it is like reading a children's book. Makes excuses in advance in case.

Trump is such an easy read, making it understandable MAGA follow his lies daily. Simpletons.

Every time I have felt masochistic, and watched Trump, he rambles, slurs his speech, slurs people as well, and lies - about everything.

Biden might be old, but his speech is clear and cogent. He does "um" a fair bit, so do most people.

Physically, Trump is a fat slug. Permit me to doubt Melania lets him anywhere near her.

IMO it would be interesting to know how the BMI of his base compares with the American average, the same base that cheered him when he mocked Chris Christie.

Maybe trump will pick tucker carlson as running mate....too bad that little tucky made a mistake and actually told the truth a few times...of course now tucky is all in and back to spouting lies about rigged elections and sucking up to orange jesus because telling MAGA the truth is just not popular.

Carlson was among the network’s hosts and executives who decried Trump’s baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen in private text messages and emails revealed in hundreds of pages of court filings made public this month, despite the network’s promotion of the false claims on air.

In private text messages Jan. 4, 2021, Carlson said he was done with Trump and his unfounded claims of a rigged election.

“We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait,” he texted an unidentified person.

“I hate him passionately. ... I can’t handle much more of this,” he added.

Carlson’s private texts starkly contrasted what he had been telling viewers during his primetime show.

“We’re all pretending we’ve got a lot to show for it, because admitting what a disaster it’s been is too tough to digest,” he wrote in another text message, referring to the “last four years.” “But come on. There isn’t really an upside to Trump.”

Fox News at the time came under fire from its core audience after it reported the 2020 election results accurately.

LOL. The wall would OBVIOUSLY not be built in areas that are too inhospitable for most to reach. There is no excuse for it not being built in easily reached areas though.

If the US stopped funding proxy wars there would be enough money to build it.

I disagree 100%. You need to prove that if you want us to believe it.

It was a stupid idea promoted by Reagan, who apparently could hardly stay awake in meetings, and failed, as expected, after certain suspects minted it large.

Reagan should have stuck to playing with his monkey.

'The actual cost for the rest of the border wall (roughly 1,300 miles) could be as high as $16 million per mile, with a total price tag of $15 billion to $25 billion. Rosenblum said the $15 billion low-end estimate is “probably an underestimate,” because the parts that have yet to be fenced are the most difficult — the most dense and arid. At $16 million per mile and with 1,300 miles to secure, the estimated cost would be $12 billion, and the price of private land acquisitions and maintenance of fencing could push that total cost higher'.  https://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/09/this-is-what-trumps-border-wall-could-cost-us.html

'CBP has already spent $78m to get the land for only 211 miles of the southwest border' Multiply that out and you get nearly $1 billion.  https://www.independent.co.uk/news/donald-trump-us-mexican-border-wall-american-property-lawyers-homeland-security-attorneys-a8056881.html

'The U.S. government would have to pay to maintain the wall, which could cost as much as $750 million a year, according to an analysis conducted by Politico. And then if it wanted to man it with personnel, that would be an additional cost — border patrol has an operating budget of $1.4 billion for 21,000 agents'.   https://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/09/this-is-what-trumps-border-wall-could-cost-us.html  It takes 21,000 agents to patrol the wall currently (700 miles) so it would need at 3 times that for 2,000 miles, so you are looking at approx. $5 billion per year.

It is estimated it will take 20 years to complete the wall.

Perhaps my initial 'trillions' would be an exaggeration but it will run into 100's of billions as the initial bill is:- $25 billion for construction. $1 billion for land acquisition and $5 billion per year to staff and maintain. The bill after the 20 years to build = $126 billion (and that's estimated at the low end) and then its's $5 billion per year for staff and uptake.

All that for a wall that aims to keeps out a fraction of those that enter the US illegally and after all, it is only a wall that can be tunneled under or climbed over.

These are the FACTS that you so desperately crave. Still think building the wall is the answer?

biden does know the difference between nikki haley and nancy pelosi which trump does not grasp....i doubt biden will want to go to a prison cell to debate trump before the election....

The wall doesn't have to be built for the entire border, and the border patrol has to be paid for anyway, so not an added expense.

Wouldn't be needed if they sent every illegal caught back over the border straight away, without the Mickey Duck legal BS. The message would soon get out, and attempts reduce significantly.

Doesn't have to be the wall that Trump was building. Razor wire works, as long as the border patrol isn't cutting it to allow the illegals through.

Have you actually listened to some of trumps rambling attempts at speaking?  Yesterday he went on about nikki haley being at the capitol on jan 6 blah blah blah but obviously he was "confused" as he was trying to talk about nancy pelosi...

and according to the trumpers old dottering senile joe somehow managed to convince dozens of trumper republicans to rig the election in several states for biden and then old dottering joe also managed to convince more dozens of trump employees to testify before grand juries under oath as to the crimes they personally saw/heard trump commit...and that clever old dottering joe managed to do it all without leaving a trace of evidence anywhere....not bad for a senile old man

See progress the Army Corps of Engineers (including contracts)

made in just a few years on the map. Before Biden cancelled the state of emergency that that Trump declared , thus ending work on the wall. If enough work is contracted not going to be close to 20 years. So biden halts work on the wall just in time to fund the Ukraine grift. On a related: over 3 Trillion was wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan. And also related Trump is  going to stop the billions to Ukraine.https://www.gao.gov/blog/building-border-barrier-u.s.-army-corps-engineers-contracting-efforts

Most illegals enter the US via legal ports of entry.

Why waste taxpayer money on a wall, when few illegals try to cross the border out in the desert?
