People Equally Divided Over Anti-Thaksin Protests Erupting: NIDA Poll

Massive street protest may happen when it's about something important.

If an old corrupt man dies in hospital or at home isn't important.

The last election showed us that having the last name Shinawatra is not good enough anymore to win an election. It seems slowly Thais learn that if they vote for corrupt individuals then they end up with a corrupt government.

Having said all that, let's look what happens if Thaksin is in the wild again. Will he finally shut his mouth? Or will he continue with his revenge? If it gets too bad, then people can still protest.

He’s a one for sure and firmly in dinosaur-should-not-be-allowed-to-govern category now, but the Thais should have got on the streets when the army took the country 10 years ago! They are apathetic like that.

That has to be one of the lamest polls I've ever seen with no point at all.

Hear hear! Another p.ant poll accross Thailand 554 people suggest protests may not escalate, 541 suggest that it will and the balance of 146 people polled believe it may become a political issue. Ha ha ha. Take away the unelected members of Parliament and their supporters and the balance out of how many million accross  Thailand?  Of course this dictatorial claptrash won't be noticed around the world. Why dont you hold a referendum like non third world Countries do.

Completely ridiculous, if any protests should be taking place right now it should be anti-army and anti stolen election. The people should be in an uproar over an election that's been stolen from them from the army thieves.

Correct, well said, but one must be careful not to name who was amongst the army of thieves

People will only protest Thaksin if he comes out of the woodwork and publicly gets involved in the government.

The best thing PTP can do is send Thaksin home and tell him to stay home.  Do not go out.  Do not speak publicly.  Act retired and play with his grandkids.

If he starts to act as the leader then there is going to be a problem.  The last thing the military and elites need is him coming out and making them look like idiots.

I think his new role is Thaksin incognito, he will have his say, but what he says will be as private as his medical care.

Polls are questionable. More can be extract from events on the streets. So far most anti Thaksin yellow shirts and actvisits have stayed out from the streets. Even serial social activist Srisuwan Janya has not directly filed court petition on Thaksin and rather accused Department of Correction of abusing power. All understand that the pardon is royally endorsed and will be fateful to protest. People has got over Thaksin and there will be no political tsunami as a serial Thaksin critic tried to frame. I believe that Thaksin will get a role in the government probably as an adviser. A decade of economic mismangement by the incompetent generals have put Thailand in a bad spot and Thaksin's contribution will be constructive. If this government can reverse the current economic poor state and the population livelihood, the subject surrounding Thaksin will fade into the background. Thailand need decades of peace and elected governments to resuscitate the economy.

Unfortunately, being in uproar has never had any positive outcome. Nothing happens apart from the government using the army to attack Thais, and then it all fades away with nothing at all achieved, except to give people jobs rebuilding damaged or destroyed infrastructure. And so that is why they weren't in uproar over the stolen election. People know that, at the end of the day, they are completely powerless and nothing they do will make any difference.

Not quite. Massive street protests have resulted in the toppling of authoritarian regimes. Ask General Suchinda, who was toppled by street protests in 1992.

Of course, this is a new generation of Thais, glued to their devices, Tiktok and their influencers, a lethargic nation.

Also, it is not enough to just have a few thousand or tens of thousands demonstrating.Back then you had a million or more hitting the streets, paralyzing Bkk.It can be done, and it has been done. But maybe not with this generation.

Untouchable is correct.

I'm afraid street protests, foot stamping by the opposition, even elections wont budge this guy (or his clan) from the position he has slithered himself (and them) into. Hun Senesque.

He has platinum level membership status to the inner circle now and is ring fenced by the elite.

The final part of the deal is to extend the senators - forever.

Sad, truly sad.

Excellent Post, and so true Re the 250 (Unelected) Senators.
