PM Discusses Visas for Bordering Countries, Aiming to Establish Thailand as Tourism Hub

On February 3rd, 2024, Mr. Srettha Thavisin, the Thai Prime Minister, publicly revealed after a discussion with Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the Minister of Tourism and Sport, regarding a discussion about CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam) visas as well as Malaysia, aiming to have Thailand as a major tourism hub.

After a Ministerial meeting with the Lao PDR, Sudawan publicly revealed that discussions were underway for regional tourism collaboration, particularly involving CLMV and Malaysia. The discussions were not concluded yet as regional collaboration needed mutual agreement and equal benefits, stated Sudawan.

CLMV plus Malaysia visas aimed to exempt visas while traveling through Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Malaysia while holding only a Thai visa like a Schengen visa in Europe, remarked Sudawan.

However, Gen. Hun Manet, the Cambodia Prime Minister, is scheduled to officially visit Thailand on February 7, to discuss the issues regarding the proposed CLMV visa.

Srettha underscored the mutual benefits for participating countries, highlighting the robust airline industries of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand, having Thailand as an aerial center to distribute incoming tourists across the region.

Maybe not so much Malaysia but with all the other countries involved, I bet there will be a lot of smuggling, especially drugs and fake merchandise, using these other countries for trans-shipments....

Years ago didn't they try to open up between all the bordering countries? I cannot remember the details but I was very hopeful then. And it went nowhere!

Particularly involving Malaysia as in 2023 it was the HUB of tourism among the ASEAN countries.

Today in another forum, red if you are doing a border run to Malaysia.

You need to announce (MDAC), only 3 days before, you are coming. As a sort of TM 6 of Thailand.

There were for now just 2 reactions on how it went. They made announcement and went and further had no problems.

They also didnt had to stay.

However with MDAC , they do ask for a place in Malaysia where you would stay.

It is red starred, so you MUST fill it in. So you have to find a place where you would stay, you dont have too, to fill it in on your MDAC.

One border was Sadao and the other not mentioned.

Some people of AN already have the experience?

Sadly there were no sources from where it came from, only experience, but somehow they knew.

So now , I KNOW.
