The economy is roaring. Immigration is a key reason.

Immigration has propelled the U.S. job market further than just about anyone expected, helping cement the country’s economic rebound from the pandemic as the most robust in the world.

A nation of former immigrants and offspring of immigrants, plus unloved new and would-be immigrants. Oh the irony!

(Just like many other countries in the world actually. H. sapiens is a migratory species.)

According to the St Louis Fed, 0ver 100% of the "new job growth" over the past 12 months has gone to foreign born workers.  Because native born workers' jobs have actually gone down over the past 12 months, from 130,000,000 to 129,807,000.  Foreign born workers aren't exactly tearing it up, either, going from 28,692,000 to 29,842,000 jobs in the same period.  For a total gain of about a million jobs, all of them (and then some) accruing to foreign born workers.  Added to the drop in average hours worked, hardly a robust job market.

But it's an election year, so count on the gub'ment indicators to look rosy...

Edit:  BTW, with around 1 million jobs added, and over 7 million "newly arrived residents", I wonder what the other 6 million are doing for a living?  That's what's going to lose Biden Newsom and the Dems 2024.

according to those graphs foreign born employment has increased by more than 2 million since just before the covid crash. Not the one million you clam.

And the reason for the decline in native born workers' percentage of the population is simple:

Immigrants’ Share of the U.S. Labor Force Grows to a New High
Native-born workers’ slice is shrinking as retirements rise and population growth slows

Are you in the US now or been back recently?  I got back to CNX from a two month visit back in Southern California and I can say these macroeconomic numbers have little meaning to most working people. That is legal workers?  This article seems to be pushing the vast benefits of illegal immigration? As former legal immigrant and naturalized American Citizen my perspective on migrants is different from others.  Yes there are many jobs.  Wages have gone up but prices of food and everyday items have shot up more than wages.  Wal Mart, Dollar Tree and 99 Cent stores were packed with people trying to make ends meet.  In my home state of California as of April 1 2024 fast food workers will have a minimum wage of $20 per hour.  A funny thing I saw was when I went to local Wendy's and discovered they were now open at 0900 due to fewer workers.

Thank you for your nonpartisan and entirely objective report.

Speaking of Wendy's, this ought to be fun.  Wendy's is trying out dynamic pricing, where the price goes up during mealtime:

The fast-food chain’s unappetizing plans, set to be tested in a high-stakes rollout next year, will squeeze more money out of already inflation-battered Americans who may not have the option to eat their meals during “off-peak” hours.

In the UK immigrants have cost the country 36 billion, including foreign students since 2020, what's so different in the USA?

https://politiking.co.uk/2024/02/18/uk-spends-billions-jobless-migrants-foreign-students/

In one sense there is no difference.  If you go to an anti-immigration website in the US it too will cherry pick numbers to make immigration look bad.

However it could be that the UK is better at preventing Immigrants from working, which obviously will drive up their cost and prevent them from benefiting the economy.

A strong argument for allowing in more legal immigrants.  However that's not going to happen while immigrants are such a convenient scapegoat for politicians.

Wendy's is fixing the problem by introducing surge pricing, like uber do. Go in there at lunch time and your burger will cost more.

But they cite actual data to support the case. Whereas you just cite your impressions and given your political orientation, there's nothing surprising in either what your impressions are or the conclusions you draw from them.

It is going to be a trial in a limited number of stores and will fail.

As dystopic as it sounds, it may just work. Imagine, right after the lunch rush they made 25 too many burgers and will need to bin them after they time out.  Or just before closing, when they generally bin a bunch of excess food.  Put them on sale at 1/2 price and it could save them wasting a bunch of food.

But that will require a lot of intervention of the local management.  Who are just as likely to jack up the price when they see their nemesis pulling into the drive-in.

Actual data? Macro data rarely indicates what is actually happening on the streets.  A positive story about of a migrant who is under asylum consideration can be countered by migrants overwhelming local social service agencies.  The city of Los Angeles had to house migrants at hotels.  Of course this was all “free”?  I just paid more in California incomes taxes than I have in more than a decade.  Of course I do not have data to indicate why but i can guess. California Gov Gavin wants “undocumented’ residents to have free medical care.  Great and the California budget deficit is only 73 Billion for this fiscal year.  Again I cannot connect the “dots”t but who knows maybe millions of “undocumented” workers will save the California and US Economy?  Lastly I have never owned a ‘MAGA” hat or voted for Donald Trump.

What do you know about my “political orientation”?  The answer would be nothing.

If you had no history of posting here you might have a better case.

Here's a good start...

At the start of 2023, the net cost of illegal immigration for the United States – at the federal, state, and local levels – was at least $150.7 billion.

FAIR arrived at this number by subtracting the tax revenue paid by illegal aliens – just under $32 billion – from the gross negative economic impact of illegal immigration, $182 billion.

https://www.fairus.org/issue/publications-resources/fiscal-burden-illegal-immigration-united-states-taxpayers-2023

Here's another:

The left continues to press for amnesty for illegal aliens. Using figures from the National Academies of Science, the net life-time fiscal cost of current illegal aliens following amnesty would between $3.8 and $4.2 trillion (in 2022 dollars).

https://www.budget.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/rector_testimony_913.pdf

And here's why (from the 2nd link):

Illegaleducation.png.d5fac2e82c3c171959d8165582c0db97.png

I am 100% in favor of the legal immigration of properly vetted and invited talent.  Just not the way it's being done.

I think a better place to start would be from a less biased source:

"Overall, we rate FAIR Questionable based on Extreme Right-Wing Bias as it relates to immigration, promotion of propaganda and conspiracies, as well as having connections to documented Hate Groups."  https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-federation-for-american-immigration-reform-fair/

Do you think California's farmers share your anti-immigrant attitude?

"Agriculture is a significant sector in California's economy, producing nearly US$50 billion in revenue in 2018. There are more than 400 commodity crops grown across California, including a significant portion of all fruits, vegetables, and nuts in the United States.[1] In 2017, there were 77,100 unique farms and ranches in the state, operating across 25.3 million acres (10,200,000 hectares) of land. The average farm size was 328 acres (133 ha), significantly less than the average farm size in the U.S. of 444 acres (180 ha).[1]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agriculture_in_California

Legal Immigrants.  I was once a legal immigrant. As a former immigrant I am not anti-immigrant.

Of course illegal aliens are for Biden.

In exchange for the freebies, the Democrats increase their voter base and representation in congress.

But with the increased crime by many illegal aliens, something tells me they’re not all here to pick lettuce in the San Joaquin Valley.

New Research on Illegal Immigration and Crime

Like our other research on illegal immigration and crime in Texas, this working paper uses data collected by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) that records and keeps the immigration statuses of those arrested and convicted of crimes in Texas. As far as we’ve been able to tell, and we’ve filed more than 50 state FOIA requests to confirm, Texas is the only state that records and keeps the immigration statuses of those entering the criminal justice system...

In 2018, the illegal immigrant criminal conviction rate was 782 per 100,000 illegal immigrants, 535 per 100,000 legal immigrants, and 1,422 per 100,000 native‐born Americans.

Always attacking the source, and not the actual data.

So, show me the data from a "less biased source".

BTW, fact checkers are usually more biased than the checkees.
