1 million Muslim memorial announced in UK budget!

Featured Replies

(Just testing the relaxed rules of discussion in The Lounge....)

Has the UK government completely lost the plot! In today's budget Mr Hunt announced that 1 million quid would be allocated to honour Muslim war dead...

What on earth is the reason for this decision?  Why not a memorial to honour ALL soldiers of minority religions who fought alongside British Christian soldiers? Are our fallen Sikh and Hindu brave soldiers who gave their lives not as worthy as Muslim soldiers?

The only words that come to mind are 'pandering' and 'appeasement', as well as 'a faking waste of money!'

Testing testing 1 2 3 😅

Because England has been flooded with them, and as we have seen with George Galloway they now have huge voter power so everybody wants to suck up to them.... despite the fact integration and abiding by the countries laws are foreign concepts to them...

But I agree with you ... why should  just the Muslims be recognised for this

At least it wasn’t as much as The Patron Saint of Fentanyl, George Floyd’s memorial in America.

We will pay these kind of decisions later.

Its to honour the 170 000 Muslims who died fighting to defend our freedoms , they gave their lives fighting on our side , nothing to do with Muslim terrorists of today

I never made any reference to Muslim terrorists!  Many Muslims gave their lives fighting on our side, and so did many Jews, Sikhs, Hindus etc etc.  Why the need to pander to the Muslims?  Are Hindu and Sikh soldiers not worthy enough to be remembered?

Where are these memorials to the Sikhs and Africans and Blacks that the British erected/funded? Do you have some links to confirm this? (because I can only find links to Sikh memorials erected by Sikhs who fought against the British etc).

Statue

A statue of a Sikh soldier has been unveiled in Leicester to honour Sikhs who fought for the UK in conflicts around the world.

The bronze figure on a granite plinth went on display in Victoria Park on Sunday.

The Sikh Troops War Memorial Committee said it would complement the existing war memorials already there.

I stand corrected!  But IMHO such memorials are hugely diversive.  War memorials traditionally honour all dead, regardless of race, ethic group, rank, status or religion. This proposed Muslim war memorial will not bring communities together - it will be the target of protests (by both pro-Islam and extreme right-wing) protestors.

I doubt very much that any group would attack a war memorial .

UK war memorials often have the names of the local British citizens who died in the wars  and the foreigners who fought for the UK don't get a mention
