Popular Post snoop1130 Posted March 15 Popular Post Share Posted March 15 BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai government today held a forum to gather ideas on how to push the country's tourism industry as Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has high hopes for 2025, calling it a "big year" for tourism. Prime Minister Srettha today presided over the opening of the Ignite Thailand Tourism forum at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. In his opening remarks, the premier announced that 2025 will be the biggest year for Thailand's tourism, which is one of the key priorities of his administration, along with infrastructure upgrades and a reduction in immigration procedures. Mr. Srettha in recent weeks had discussions with the organizers of Formula 1 and Formula E races as well as major fashion brands who showed interest in business opportunities in Thailand. He noted Thailand has a tremendous capacity not only in terms of tourism but also trade and investment, as the uniqueness of Thailand and its soft power assets can propel the economy. At the forum, Minister of Tourism and Sports Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol told participants that ideas collected during the event would translate into solutions that cater to the country's effort to turn itself into a global tourist destination. But, they better hope China can pull off a miracle. It is too later to woo back the Western countries that actually have a future and money to spend. I see nothing being built in Phuket (eg a tram or further road infrustructure) to cope with the gridlock in numbers. There is a profusion of roadworks around Pattaya, but nothing 'new' to improve the situation of a lacking infrastructure. DonniePeverley Posted March 17 Share Posted March 17 They will indeed allow 60-70 millio tourists next year. I predict we will see a massive influx of Indian and Chinese tourists. However, without infrustructure improvements eventually the locals will start to complain. At the moment Bangkok is a nightmare to drive around. Phuket is gridlocked. I see no projects there to say we adding additional roads, new transport models, etc Furthermore, it will make for a poor tourist experience too. Why have they decided to turn Thailand into a tourist state ? herfiehandbag Posted May 7 Share Posted May 7 They absolutely hitched their wagon to the Chinese mass tourism phenomenon. The Chinese stopped coming, due to COVID and the Chinese economic troubles. The (unlikely) prospect of a Formula 1 race around the streets of Bangkok ( my giddy aunt, just imagine it!) is not going to resurrect that model.
