Two New Zealand Men Arrested in Phuket for Alleged Brutal Assault on Traffic Cop

Phuket—At 3:50 PM, on March 16th, 2024, Chalong police officers captured two New Zealand nationals who allegedly refused to pull over for a traffic offense, evaded police arrest, and were later accused of assaulting an officer who pursued them in Mueang, Phuket.

According to the police report, Chalong patrol police were performing their regular duty on Chaofa East Road, in front of the Chalong police station. Two foreigners on motorbikes did not follow the traffic laws, not riding close to the left side of the road and riding at high speed in a community area, according to Chalong police.

The police on duty asked for cooperation from them to stop their motorbikes. However, the two violators then allegedly attempted to flee from the police.After the police pursuit, the two foreigners were infuriated and allegedly attacked the police while having the incident recorded by the police.

 

The situation escalated as the foreigners allegedly attempted to snatch the officers’ firearm causing the gun to fire once, nobody was injured, according to the police.

Shocking scene shows two New Zealand tourists after they attacked an on-duty police officer on Saturday in the Chalong area of the holiday island. One of the pair snatched the police officer’s Sig Sauer firearm and assaulted him with it. When the policeman, Police Senior Sergeant Major Somsak Noo-iad, tried to recover his gun, a shot was discharged in the ensuing struggle. Top brass have vowed to pursue justice in the case. Indeed, further criminal charges may be brought. Initially, the pair face charges of assault, robbery, obstruction and bribery.

It saw the pair, both in their late thirties, physically confront, assault and overpower the policeman. It came after he pursued them over a road traffic stop. At one point, a shot was fired from the policeman’s gun as he struggled with his attackers. At the same time, one man used the firearm to assault the officer putting him in fear of his life.

 

Two New Zealand tourists sparked outrage in Phuket on Saturday, March 16. The pair physically attacked and overpowered an on-duty police officer while stealing his gun.

 

At length, they appeared to use the gun to further assault and terrify the stricken officer.

I don’t know these two just getting pulled over for a traffic infraction and doing this , I can say it does seem there’s more to the story and I only see one of them taking the weapon and clearing it ( making it safe) definitely more to  this story . At least no one was hurt .

As a New Zealander, I can confirm that NZ is full of arrogant entitled p***** ... looking forward to leaving permanently... to SE Asia....

 

In my many thousands of KMs of motorcycling in Thailand, I was ALWAYS stopped at EVERY road check point, even as Thai's without helmets passed by without being stopped.

 

Once I was stopped about 3 times in maybe 20 kms (I have no idea what there were so many check points). I complained to the senior Police Officer there. He was very friendly. Funny, the next two check points I went though I was not stopped the only time this has ever happened = not being stopped at a Police check point.

 

There can have been no possible sane reason why these two nutters ended up in the situation they did other than their own arrogance, entitlement and stupidity.

 

I think too many western people tend to demand the same standards in a SE Asian country as they expect in their own country, forgetting that they are guests in this country and need to abide by the laws and customs of that country. As they say, when in Rome xxx xx x

OK so what's been said that they didn't go out with their drivers licence and that's where it all kicked off, You never go out without your licence here if your riding or driving I learnt that 24 Yr ago! But that's even if they have a licence but I hope they get the full treatment at chalong Station then put behind the door for a few years

Ask Aussie cops how the kiwis behave in Oz. Sameway these two pigheaded 'bros' did. Never known a kiwi in Oz to respect anylaws and I know and have worked with plenty of them.My youngest son unfortunately partnered a kiwi 'thing', absolute nightmare, he,s lucky to be alive.
