Popular Post SingAPorn
Very good guidelines. Now it should be the mantra to stop deleting other people's comments on grounds of the usual "off topic", "inflamatory" , "trolling" etc.... to justify why it is deleted. Of course if any comment is straighforwardly illegal, nominatively aimed on another member in a rude manner, it obviously has no place to remain. But plainly deleting beacause somebody just reported it for no reason...not sure if that's the best way to make a place grow and develop. I once got deleted just beacause God felt I had posted to many comments, not even rude. The reason given was "take a posting break". That may have been accepted years before, but now with all the competition and other websites ? A comment with contents that do plainly do not agree on purely ideological grounds should not be deleted. If so, people will just stop comming and numbers will dwindle IMHO. Same for new members and their subscriptions are on "hold" until "approuval" before they can post. C'mon guys...it's not the immigration office here to have such heavy bureaucracy. 🤣 2 2

scorecard
6 hours ago, OneMoreFarang said: I saw a post I didn't agree with. I didn't get offended. Why should I get offended if someone has another opinion? I posted on that thread that I disagree for this or that reason. And others posted their opinion. A discussion started about the subject. People exchanged ideas and opinions. Isn't that the whole idea about a forum? And isn't that the business of forums to have many people discuss issues? Or do you want something like: I saw a post I agreed with. I posted right away that I agree. And then 3 more agreed. We all agree. Nobody disagreed. Is that what you want? PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD. Yes it's all caps. 1

Popular Post theblether
I have a genuine suggestion. Limit all members to a maximum of fifty comments per day. There's far too many personal vendettas and they always derail topics. There used to be a list of the highest contributors to the forum on a daily basis and it was the best way to identify the trolls and mentally ill. Except, of course, when I topped the list as clearly I'm a genius. 1 2 1

I've had posts deleted before and when going back to that topic shortly after, it always seems to be the same Mod who is lurking/overseeing that thread. Perhaps they can have it in for certain OP's?..... 1 1 2

Popular Post Woof999
In all seriousness, a "you're a tw4t" emoji would solve most issues. Please don't delete this post, just mark it with the new "you're a tw4t" option. I won't be offended. And please, enough with the "we're child friendly" bullcrap. The Internet is not child friendly. I think it's impossible to make general guidelines like that. What if the post was misinformation? Should I not post to correct it? Why should people skip posting on things they disagree with? Either these guidelines don't represent the core idea you had in mind or I would say I would disagree with them. What's a forum for if not discussion? Do you want it to be a Q&A kinda site with news added? How about this guideline: * I should try to assume good faith on others posts * I should answer in a respectful manner * When disagreeing I should reply to the argument and not call the other poster names or use shallow replies * I should aim to post truthful information (if needed with supporting sources in certain forums) * I should aim to foster a productive conversation * I should stay on-topic as reasonable as possible * I should think before I post and maybe consider a time out if I feel I get angry or upset by what I read * I should not post conspiracy theories Edited May 11 by eisfeld 2 1 1

I do not understand that post! There are some members whose posts are frequently removed by moderators, they seem unable or unwilling to write posts that comply with forum rules. On the other hand, there are some members who never have a single post removed from one year to the next. Those things are not a function of moderation, they are a function of the poster. 2 1 1
JayClay
13 hours ago, Pattaya57 said: What happens when someone posts in the Pattaya forum: haven't been there for more than 12 hours in 15 years as it's a sleazy <deleted> hole. I don't agree with that and I am offended that someone who obviuosly doesn't like or even visits Pattaya has to come into a Pattaya forum and troll us that live there. You are correct in that I don't need to change their mind, however they need to stop visiting sub-forums about a place they have a hatred for.... Why should we just accept their obvious troll post without comment? Or should we go to their sub-forum and post everyday about how much we hate their life choice? You make some good points. But try to avoid getting offended by what some people say.... You do yourself no favours wasting your time getting upset by other people's ignorance. The whole "I didn't try to change their mind" point in the OP is, honestly, ridiculous. If I correct a factual inaccuracy, I am almost certain not to be successful in educating the person who made it - and it is not my aim, anyway. I would however like the correct information to be available to anybody else who might be reading. The same is true with opinions.... If somebody offers up an opinion that I disagree with, I'll offer mine, and I'll point out any flaws I find with said person's opinion. Again, not to change the mind of the person who made the point in the first place; their mind is almost certainly made up. However, any readers who are undecided surely have the right to see both/all sides of a debate. The problem is when these disagreements descend into pages and pages of people going around in circles making the same argument over and over again. I do try my best to bow out before it gets to that stage, but I guess we're all only human....
