My little contribution to forum guidelines

We need a separate "locked threads" section.

They make the juiciest reading.

And there's the famous "confused" emoji.

Ok, I'll explain it slowly.

W e  n e e d  a  s e p a ra t e "l o c k e d  t h r e a d s"  s e c t I o n. T h e y  m a k e  t h e  j u i c i e s t  r e a d i n g.

I saw a post I didn't agree with.

I didn't get offended. Why should I get offended if someone has another opinion?

I posted on that thread that I disagree for this or that reason.

And others posted their opinion.

A discussion started about the subject. People exchanged ideas and opinions.

Isn't that the whole idea about a forum?

And isn't that the business of forums to have many people discuss issues?

Or do you want something like:

I saw a post I agreed with.

I posted right away that I agree.

And then 3 more agreed.

We all agree.

Nobody disagreed.

Is that what you want?

PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD.

Yes it's all caps.

comment with contents that do plainly do not agree on purely ideological grounds should not be deleted. If so, people will just stop comming and numbers will dwindle

I stopped posting here for a year for that very reason...George said the rules have been reviewed but I still see lots of content deleted.

A simple "not like" emoji (thumbs down) would forestall a lot of invective.

Having 4 different emojis expressing approval, and none to coldly express the opposite, is ridiculous

ya but feelings.

Please add these too:

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

That post is almost as pathetic as GG.

Sheesh.

Nuff said.

I can't be arsed to reply.

Two a year doesn't make you queer.

Very good guidelines. Now it should be the mantra to stop  deleting other people's comments on grounds of the usual "off topic", "inflamatory" , "trolling" etc.... to justify why it is deleted.

Of course if any comment is straighforwardly illegal, nominatively aimed on another member in a rude manner, it obviously has no place to remain. But plainly deleting beacause somebody just reported it for no reason...not sure if that's the best way to make a place grow and develop. I once got deleted just beacause God felt I had posted to many comments, not even rude. The reason given was "take a posting break". That may have been accepted years before, but now with all the competition and other websites ?

A  comment with contents that do plainly do not agree on purely ideological grounds should not be deleted. If so, people will just stop comming and numbers will dwindle IMHO. Same for new members and their subscriptions are on "hold" until "approuval" before they can post. C'mon guys...it's not the immigration office here to have such heavy bureaucracy. 🤣

Also closing threads, no need really, let them fizzle out themselves

I have a genuine suggestion. Limit all members to a maximum of fifty comments per day.

There's far too many personal vendettas and they always derail topics. There used to be a list of the highest contributors to the forum on a daily basis and it was the best way to identify the trolls and mentally ill.

I have an easier suggestion. Ban all members with usernames G.....G....

Pretty sure it's the same person with multiple GG usernames. Can't be a coincidence all the G.....G..... posters are weird with minimal education/writing skills?

Some posters have their posts hidden all the time, others, never at all.

How do posters hide their posts and why post if your going to hide it?

I do not understand that post!

Agreed.

My ignore list is 2 pages long.

I have never ignored anybody, yet, but sometimes wonder how many have put me on the list, not that I am particularly bothered

I dunno ... I currently value AseanNow forum posts as constant reminders of the type of person I don't want to become.  Or know.

Yes, there are a few posters about whom it can be said:

"You are not entirely useless, you can always serve as a bad example."

What happens when someone posts in the Pattaya forum: haven't been there for more than 12 hours in 15 years as it's a sleazy <deleted> hole.

I don't agree with that and I am offended that someone who obviuosly doesn't like or even visits Pattaya has to come into a Pattaya forum and troll us that live there.

You are correct in that I don't need to change their mind, however they need to stop visiting sub-forums about a place they have a hatred for....

Why should we just accept their obvious troll post without comment? Or should we go to their sub-forum and post everyday about how much we hate their life choice?

You make some good points. But try to avoid getting offended by what some people say.... You do yourself no favours wasting your time getting upset by other people's ignorance.

The whole "I didn't try to change their mind" point in the OP is, honestly, ridiculous. If I correct  a factual inaccuracy, I am almost certain not to be successful in educating the person who made it - and it is not my aim, anyway. I would however like the correct information to be available to anybody else who might be reading.

The same is true with opinions.... If somebody offers up an opinion that I disagree with, I'll offer mine, and I'll point out any flaws I find with said person's opinion. Again, not to change the mind of the person who made the point in the first place; their mind is almost certainly made up. However, any readers who are undecided surely have the right to see both/all sides of a debate. The problem is when these disagreements descend into pages and pages of people going around in circles making the same argument over and over again. I do try my best to bow out before it gets to that stage, but I guess we're all only human....
