Eurovision followup -- was UK Olly's Dizzy performance too much for Eurovision?

Featured Replies

Zero.votes from the public.

Zero.

Let that sink in.

Objectively the song wasn't that bad.

It got votes from the jury.

So why the Zero?

Obviously can't call Eurovision fans homophobic but was the homoerotic staging just too much?

Not camp. More like soft porn?

Yes the first non binary winner but that was not like a porn fantasy.

Some say it was because Olly can't sing probably a factor but i think the problem was the sexualization.

I predicted Switzerland would win.but I liked Croatia's entry better.

Obviously the Eurovision audience is very LGBT friendly.

But there is a time and a place for pornographic fever dreams.

Olly tested the limits of what the Eurovision audience wants to see in a song contest.

He's an artist and good artists take risks but that doesn't mean they are guaranteed to pay off.

Zero votes from the public.

It could be worse.

His brilliant acting career will go on.

This song alone highlights most definitely not IMO...

Not just a step too far, but in targeting to a somewhat kitsch and 'acronym' friendly audience, this was a full on assault against decency.

If it were  a 'male & female - hetero image' the song was purveying in the same over sexualised crude manner it would be equally as crude, distasteful and offensive...    the same could be argued of Madonna, Sam-Smith etc - but they don't target family audiences.

The line between 'art and self indulgent gratification' was overstepped for what is supposed to be 'family friendly TV....   Catchy song, completely unnecessary performance.

The British judges were well out of touch for even accepting this - shows how frightened the woke are of having an balanced opinion.

Gay or not its <deleted>e -- poor concept, poor execution, poor performance

Then there is the fact that he keeps hitting flat notes throughout.

id say it was just plain <deleted>e. decency has nothing to do with it.

I thought the performance was good actually but more suited to a nightclub.

I watched this with my 10.year old granddaughter and it was ridiculous viewing for a so-called family show. The European public have spoken.

Too far, too much. That's enough.

I genuinely believe too many young gay people won't be happy until they alienate the public.

Zero points. Zero self-awareness. Ridiculous.

That's the complaint. Keep.it away from the one family show that all Europe watches.

The family has to be destroyed to continue the leftward march.

In happier times.

Olly is a talented sweetheart but he made an artistic mistake with the staging.

If you haven't already watch him in Its a Sin.

I seriously doubt with the zero votes result that any other act will try similar in future.

Eurovision has always had a global family audience. Over the last couple of decades the LGBT community have  really embraced it and almost claimed it as their own. Which is understandable in a way - I mean it's always been very camp.

Unfortunately it's gone too far now, and it's almost become a giant Pride parade. The organisers need to understand that their core audience don't want to see gay fetish acts on stage.

As for the zero points from the British public, I did hear the voting system is a bit like 'first past the post' as in Olly might have received a lot of votes but they didn't translate into points. A bit like UKIP getting 4 million votes but no seats in the 2015 UK election.

But I suspect it's mainly because Olly's performance was essentially gay sex show, plus he can't sing live.

Good point. This contest used to be great for the kids to watch.

I thought the whole thing was chit.

When I was in school, I remember this was for my parents one of those TV highlights of the year. I never understood the fuss about it.

But years ago, it was just mostly just bad music. Now it's additionally a pride parade and political signaling. Something for the LBGTQ+/- and woke and nobody else.

Anyway it's a fact that Eurovision has evolved largely into a LGBT cultural event. Like it or not  I like it. Others don't. Not every show needs to be heteronormative pablum.

That said it's mostly been about high camp, silliness, male and female divas, highlighting different cultures as well which is not so gay.

What Olly did going so sleazy was an outlier!

I don't recall a Eurovision act like that before.

He tried something new and it bombed.

I doubt what he did will be repeated.

So not to worry.

Eurovision as a LGBT cultural extravaganza will continue and I predict Switzerland will  be less of a cluster f year than this one.

To gay? Not possible for eurovision, it is a or have become the most gay music festival/show on the planet. Just look back on the history.

If even the gay audience was put off by their stage show and song, then the gay community was the ones who turned their back to it, not the straight.

You took the title too literally.

Obviously an act can't be too gay for Eurovision.

But my argument is that it was too sleazy sexualized for Eurovision.

I already went over this.

The zero votes was not about being anti gay.
