Beloved Brit found dead in Thailand hotel room

Recommended Posts

Have to agree that this GFM is not appropriate here. Sorry for the deceased family but if the fella could afford numerous hols to Thailand then surely he would have some assets in Wales like a property etc which the family could borrow against in order to get his body home?

can't they show some sympathy and donate $10,000  to help the grieving family.

WHY should the British tax payer be expected to front up for people who persistently travel without the necessary insurance to cover any and all situations that may affect them ?

it is not rocket science to adopt a responsible attitude to any possible future developments, I fail to understand how people can pay out large amounts of money for flight tickets, bar girls, and even a beer yet will not pay a couple of hundred pounds or whatever currency you use to get an insurance policy that will remove the strain on themselves and their loved ones when something goes wrong.

We don’t know anything at the moment as to the circumstances around it. It only happened on Saturday so we know very little.

Sadly this is likely to remain unchanged.

I see many  commenting here have never heard of a Wake , maybe his family would like to see him one last time before they bury him in his local cemetery & give him a wake first for his family & friends to come and pay their respects , RIP to the young guy

If they want a wake they should pay for it!

Nothing religious etc about wakes!

If they want a wake, get him cremated here and send the urn home to be centerpice of the wake!

Cheaper and less stressful for all.

Everyone has different beliefs I suppose I was just saying that’s the traditional thing that older folk do they are not into cremation  that much , there is a service in Ireland called The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust that many who have not got the ready funds to do this have used very successfully & they handle everything then afterwards the family have benefit nights or something to pay them back afterwards

Where did you get that 'age' generalisation thing from ???

Isn't cremation a cultural thing ?...   in the UK most of everyone I know in the UK who has passed, Grandparents, friends parents etc we're cremated...

...  80% of funerals in the UK are cremations.

The Burial and  then the ongoing plot upkeep has to be paid for by someone!

An urn/cask/box/plastic bag does not need any upkeep, and why bother with that anyway?

They are dead! Good bye!

R.I.P.

I always roll my eyes when it comes to repatriating corpses.

I work for United Airlines/Delta Airlines in Rapid City.

During and after the Sturgis motorcycle rally we'll ship out 10 to 15 during the two weeks of the rally. We call it the 'Rally Tally'

I've always wondered why folks don't fly here get their loved ones cremated and fly home with an urn

And btw they are a pain in the ass to process and load onto aircraft. For anyone contemplating this, we load them head forward, to stop embalming fluid concentrating in their head!

I’m full sure the corpse doesn’t care how it’s loaded on to the plane.

The family do.

It's because at takeoff if the head is facing back the embalming fluid flows into the head which disfigures the corpse

Wow - learn something new every day. May I ask how you know such specific information? I can't imagine many people outside of the undertaking world knowing such a fact. Genuinely interested.

RIP and condolences to the family and friends.

Regarding the Go-Fund-Me...  I understand that there are cultural and religious differences... But, I don't quite get the logic behind transporting a dead body from Thailand to the UK at huge expense...

... Would it not be easier to have a cremation in Thailand and a Memorial service in the UK.

His ashes could be transported back in due course - either hand carried or posted.

For someone who lived a long time in Thailand, I've heard of people 'splitting the ashes'....    so that some remain in Thailand and some is returned to the UK...  some form of comfort if the deceased had loved ones in both nations.

Yes, this is what they did with a friend of mine who died in Pattaya of kidney failure.  His daughter came over from the US, had him cremated at a local temple, half his ashes went in Pattaya bay, the other half she took back home with her.  Very sensible.

Why is this news people die every day every hour

Because he was relatively young, overseas, found alone, circumstances of death unknown...

Now.. Why are you commenting if this is of no interest to you at all ???

But some families like a grave stone and a grave I guess. It beats maybe telling the kids/ mother wife/.. well 4 people turned up at your daddys funeral and we not sure where the ashes are now. Some drunken expat threw them in the pattaya bay sinkhole 😞

Everyone is different and many react upon what they have experienced or consider normal, or not normal. I do agree that a funeral/cremation in Thailand is the best option but it is up to the family. As for throwing ashes in the "Pattaya Bay Sinkhole" then you may wish to reflect and consider the wishes of the deceased who had great times and memories of Pattaya. And their remaining family. Please watch...

Working in the airline industry we go through a bunch of training, and dealing with transporting corpses is one of them.

They can only be loaded in the aft cargo bin, and cargo straps criss crossed to keep the box in place.

Due to the stress on takeoff is why we load them head up to stop the embalming fluid pooling in their head

How come the death toll of loner falang tourists is so high in Thailand ? In no other country do tourists pass away so fast. Very sad for the deceased and his family - RIP.

P.S. It's up to the British Embassy to pay all expenses and then settle with the family back in UK.

London sends billions of pounds worth money and arms to Ukraine so they can surely help their own when in trouble abroad.

Thanks for clarifying. I suppose it's not really an issue when landing as the descent is 'flat' as opposed to a climb when taking off. That snippet of info you provided would warrant a place on the TV program QI. 👍

He died of "Died Suddenly."  It happens all the time nowadays to people under 50.  Probably sunspots.  🙄

Yes. So many sick people of all ages in Thailand. Every week someone dies in a local village. It is from cardiac arrest to pulmonary embolism. It must be the heat and pollution. it affects mainly the poor.

Why not just get cremated in Thailand?

He certainly loved the place.

why not just put him in a box and row out to sea ....   say a few words then slide him over board ...

very cheap and easy to arrange.

Often there are religious cultural reason,  but cremation is cheap so is a proper urn

I had no idea the rally had such a regular death count BTW

The cost of full casket intl repatriation must be huge

Curiously it's actually cheaper than you think, or I thought.

I always thought it would be ridiculous. Now I can't can't comment on an international repatriation, never done one

But last year I accepted an HR (Human Remains in airline jargon) being sent domestically, to Atlanta I think I recall, but the air freight charge was $450!. No idea how much the casket and undertaker costs, but definitely cheaper than I thought.

Maybe the airlines take pity on the dead

Never priced it myself

Used to fly some em out from the islands on a stretcher for medical care. Many came back as HR. Some paid for by Uncle Sam. The Marshallese. We poised ‘em with radiation from atmospheric testing.
