It crashed in fog, straight into the mountain, and probably had seconds to react.

One of the earliest lessons in flight training is the aviation order of operations in an emergency, aviate, navigate, communicate, In that priority order.

There was not time to send a may day call and what would it have achieved, as the flight route was known, there were other helicopters flying with them, and the rescue was delayed because the thick fog stopped an aerial search and the crash was in remote and difficult terrain, pictured below.

Iranian state media has shared the last known picture of the helicopter from yesterday.

Would instrumentation failure be likely in this type of crash?

First and final cockpit voice alert:  "Warning,  mountain 5 centimeters ahead..."

That would explain the Leicester City's boss tragic crash. Oh wait a moment..... Personally having only ever gone up in a helicopter once I would never do it again.

Having been a soldier, I have spent a fair amount of time belting around the countryside in helicopters. Never much liked it, especially Chinooks; never really liked the idea of flying in an aircraft which was capable of having a collision with itself!

It is too early and total lack of information to even guess at the reason, but I doubt the real reason will ever be released, as the Iranian government will not miss the opportunity fir propaganda to blame other nations.

This helicopter, which crashed, registration 6-9221, has been in service since the 1970s.

The first Bell 212 fly in 1968 and since then this helicopter type, has been involved in 430 incidents.

Also last night, it was the Turkish Akinci drone that identified the wreckage of the helicopter, using thermal imaging.

In your head. It’s called obsession.

There seems to be lots of derangement syndrome going around. First it was Trump now the deranged have moved over to Netanyahu. Its always something with them.

Just wait until Al Jazeera gets its hands on the story the helicopter will have been carrying 100 passengers of which 95 were woman and children.

Just wait until certain posters read that and declare they will claim it  as being only partially true.

They will then declare that there were many more murdered by .......... "insert anti Islamic Country/organisation" and that it is all the fault of the other side!

There are many Iranian citizens who detest their hard-line religious Government and would support the regimes downfall .

Many Iranian  citizens support Israel and Jews and oppose the Palestinian leading Iran into a another war .

The opposing sides are tolerant people V intolerant people .

Its the Islamic republic who are the enemy, it isn't the Iranian people or Country

Alex Jones is blaming the crash on a CIA weather machine. How did it ever come that such pure nut stuff is now accepted by millions of low IQ drones?

With respect, this may be so but after the removal of the Shah of Persia by the Revolutionary Guards, Iran supported and funded terror organisations that die "the dirty work"!

I know what you mean, but these groups are regarded by most in Iran as freedom fighters, or resistance.

Some rather negative comments about a country that is generally peace loving. I find it funny when an American, for example, thinks Iran is evil. Iran has not started any war in the last say 100 years, compared to the US who have started many and one for a  made up reason, yet the Muslims are the bad guys....
