All these people "confused" or "laughing" at my preference for Prayuth should remember that he was a status quo politician. For those of us dealing with immigration, he was a godsend. Popular Post nobodysfriend
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn44555ly8lo In what had looked like a grand bargain, his party was allowed to form a coalition government with some of his political opponents, in order to keep out the youthful reformist party Move Forward which had won the most votes and seats in the 2023 election. But the decision to indict the 74 year-old former premier under the draconian lese majeste law shows that he still has enemies in Thailand’s powerful royalist establishment. Mr. Thaksin’s lawyers say they are confident of defending him in court; but in the typically protracted period before he is likely to go to trial this indictment may force him to limit his political ambitions. He stepped on someone's toes ...

What changes to retirement extensions mentioned yesterday are you on about? The only change I saw mentioned was a reduction of the insurance requirement from 3 million baht to 440,000 baht, which seems to be an improvement if your extension is the type that requires insurance. Have you seen something else? 4

Popular Post Wrwest
This is a great example of the political misuse of that law. Ironically, it is the misuse that, in itself, reflects poorly on the Kingdom of Thailand.
Srikcir
"The case, filed by police, alleged Thaksin violated Thailand’s notoriously harsh royal insult law during an interview he gave in 2015 to the South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo." Wouldn't Thaksin's 2023 Royal Pardon be a catch-all for all his alleged crimes through to the date of the Pardon? https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/with-royal-pardon-thai-ex-premiers-8-year-prison-term-reduced-to-1-year/2980936 This new charge by the police on an 8-year old interview might seem in itself an act of lese majeste committed by the police as the police might appear to be disrespectful of the Pardon. Shouldn't the police need a post-2023 crime alleged against Thaksin to overcome the term of his Royal Pardon?

digger70
Thailand indicts former leader Thaksin Shinawatra on royal insult charges. . Thaksin will need to appear before the Office of the Attorney General on June 18, after which he will be taken to court. He could not appear at Wednesday’s hearing due to a Covid-19 infection, the spokesperson said. " Thailand has some of the world’s strictest royal defamation laws, and criticizing the king, queen, or heir apparent can lead to a maximum 15-year prison sentence for each offense. Sentences for those convicted under Section 112 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, or lese majeste law, can be decades long, and hundreds of people have been prosecuted in recent years. Here we go again Just Wondering how long this covid will take to get better. A long stay in the hospital seems to be in order . Just thinking ,did Thaksin arranged to by his way out of this and Not go to Jail Again. What a #@*!$ country,
