I have heard that If you stay in Thailand for more than 180 days in a year, it seems that they are planning to change the law to impose taxes on the amount of money earned outside of Thailand, even if you do not send it to Thailand.

If I register my employment or business with DTV, won’t it be problem later?

I've got one question : does the Thai Embassy in Vientiane accept Thai Baht as payment for the DTV or does it need to be USD ?

Its ok with Thai barts. I saw someone paid with it.

Australian here going through the Canberra Embassy.

I lodged my DTV application yesterday and put down my arrival in BKK randomly as 25/10 as I have my next hospital outpatient appointment slip for 1/11.

I don't actually plan on getting there until 22/11 but I figured I already had the appointment slip date.

I'm basically saying on the application that 2 weeks from the date of my application is my requested departure.

From what I've been reading, these applications are being processed fairly quickly in around 7-10 days or so (depending if more docs are requested).

More than likely my date won't ruin my application would it?

I'm fairly confident they won't reject my application. I have a full letter of recommendation from the Bangkok Hospital for 5 years of continuous treatment from when I did an in-person outpatient appointment last month so I should easily qualify.

Evidence of funds wise I've got a 'Proof of Balance' statement from my NAB bank account. It isn't an actual 3 month statement that has a transaction history but it does have the letter head, account details, my address, current available balance and date generated.

Those I think are the main things I'd need to be concerned about right? Everything else was just basic self-explanatory eg. uploading a recent photo and giving flight/accom details.

There have been some questions raised previously in this thread about whether immigration officers would do any additional checks upon subsequent entries after the initial DTV entry. From my own experience the answer so far is "no". I entered BKK airport on the DTV for a second time yesterday and the IO just smiled and stamped my passport, no questions asked. I'm on the digital nomad flavour of DTV, so can't speak to what might happen in the case of e.g. a 5 year visa based on a medical appointment.

Does the IO at the airport know what flavor of DTV you are on?

Have you received your DTV approved yet from the Canberra Embassy? Did they ask for any extra documents or questions?

Just applied for a DTV. A heads up, even though the fee is AUD$600 with the only payment methods being accepted are Visa or Mastercard, even though you get charged in your home currency Australian Dollars, it's done by Kasikorn Bank in Hong Kong, so your Australian credit card company wacks you with an extra 3.5% fee even though the payment is charged in Australian Dollars. That's an extra $21 as a transaction fee on top.

Just came across this vlogger in thailand.

at 1:25 he says the DTV visa doesn't make economic sense for thailand and he expects that it will be discontinued fairly soon.

He thinks they will cancel it because of the Elite?  I think that overpriced option's ship has sailed.  If they had enough money/power to prevent the DTV, they would have.   In what other way does the DTV "not make economic sense for Thailand"??  People with money / income stay and spend that money here vs spending it in other countries.  That "makes economic sense" to me.

After a year or so of "no problem with my DTV reports" being passed among expats - many who left, swearing never to deal with Thai immigration again, due to their past behavior - might even return and start spending their money here, again.

This was my experience too. No questions, just stamp and smile

180 days, which you can extend for another 180 days at an immigration office. Then you have to leave Thailand. You can come back the same day or the day after and get another 180 days, which you can extend at an immigration office, and so on for five years.

We haven't had any reports yet of people extending, and we have seen different reports about what it will cost. Some says 1.900 baht, others says 10.000 baht. We will have to wait and see.

Does anyone have any idea if I could pass the proof of funds requirement if I provide Skrill.com statement. Or has anyone already done it using Wise for example? I have an IBAN on Wise, so that is my last resort since I want to avoid other traditional banks.

Still choosing where to go, basically any embassy in SEA. Most likely Vientiane, PP, HCMC and every other that is a little more easy on the reqs. Just trying to figure out this funds thing now.

Found someone mentioning that they successfully got DTV with WISE in HCMC. Don't mind my question anymore.

Certificate of Residency (for either driving licence or buy/sell/transfer vehicle) obtained from Chonburi Immigration (Jomtien) on DTV with no requirement for 90 days registration. All achieved in one day - TM30 and COR. 😃

That makes life easier.

How much is Jomtien charging for the Certificate of Residency these days?

I heard somewhere that you can get the digital nomad visa while still living in Thailand. Is that true, or does it require applying from another country?

When I applied, you could not apply from within Thailand.

You had to use the evisa system (this depends on which country/embassy you are applying in) and you needed to show some proof of address in that country (again dependent on which country/embassy you are applying in)

If using medical treatment as the reason I guess only an initial appointment letter is required??

How could they evaluate someone as actually needing treatment if they are not already in country? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I applied under the 'workcation' category rather than the 'soft power (medical appointment)' category. So I don't know the answer.

However reports on this thread seem to suggest it is relatively easy. How about a scale and polish?

To be safe, I'm going to get evaluated for my tooth implant while I'm here, then apply for the visa in another country. That way I have documentation that I actually need the procedure. I don't think that would work for everybody, however. The procedure does take around a year start to finish as well.
