Extreme oily skin

Featured Replies

In my 40's now and my face has such extreme oily skin that you could literally fry an egg on there.

I've had oily skin all my life. Was told that it would go away after puberty, then it would go away after my teens, then would slowly reduce. But in actual effect it's never gone, and seemingly has gone worst.

Nothing i do stops it (although it's limited as to what i've done).

I went on a course of accutane for 4 months, because i also get acne on my back which can be painful spots. This reduced the oily skin, but it's not something you can stay on permenantly due to the side effects.

I've tried one of these lasers here in Bangkok promising to shrink my sebacaous glands, and nothing. I just threw money down the drain with that one.

I clearly have some extreme testosterone or something that is contributing to over production of sebum from my sebacacous glands. I literally no one who has this sort of issue. It's not a little oily, but extreme. I'm talking about if i blot my skin with some tissue after a few hours you will see a wet tissue.

Help.

Have you done some blood tests regarding your hormones?

You state clearly have, and if this have been a problem since your teens, what have doctors said? Have you been to a dr who specialize in hormones?

Would i just go to a hospital and request hormone tests? Or a Skin doctor ?

I have oily skin too. It’s good in a lot of ways although I know it’s a pain and it makes one less comfortable in the climate here. I’m a strict believer there is no cure for this kind of thing. It’s actually good for your skin. But anything you try and do to “fix” it will just make some other problem and make things worse in the long run (many medicines are like this too, people just dont realize it). I just carry a little hand towel with me.

You could go to a lab to check hormones, usually much cheaper then see a skin specialist

I know Bangkok anti age center, do have qualified dr's who can take necessary blood tests on you for 5k +- minus pluss dr fee 1200 or so.

Just go to an lab, you need to know what to look for, and also know how the different blood tests connects and influence each other.

Anything to do with diet?

I too have oily skin, but guess what, I love it.  Very, very few wrinkles on my face at 63.  Folks think I am 40.  Just deal with it and enjoy the youthful looks, without paying thousands of dollars on botox, korean make up or any other snake oil they sell for folks who do not have oily skin.  It is a blessing.

Also, if you have high T, you will have oil skin.  My T is very high....1200+ at the age of 63.  This has been my level since I started measuring T levels. So, you may have high T, which is a very good thing, because TRT can be annoying if not done right.

Enjoy your oily skin.

Reasons for extreme oily skin could be

Genetics

Hormones

Stress (even self induced because of oily skin)

Food

Medication

(Washing too often)

Skin care products

Alc

Start with a blood test (minerals, hormones aso at a dermatologist)

I always get oily skin when in Thailand.  I always chalked it up to the oily food and sweating like a pig in the heat.

That's unscientific, but the temporal correlation is that it gets less noticeable when I'm not in Thailand eating fried foods and soaked in sweat.

I'm all for finding a good doctor and doing the tests, but the first thing I'd try is to avoid fried and oily foods for a few days and see if that makes a difference.

I'm opposite,  but not sure too dry or harmone change. Last few months itch to the point I scratch areas until I start to bleed. Ive taken Anti-H pills and use creams only temp.

My smooth skin now scarred everywhere starting to be self conscious whenever I get massages of any kind 🤧
