Heavy rainfall warning issued for 46 provinces including Bangkok

The Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning, forecasting heavy rainfall in 46 provinces, including Bangkok, with 70% of the area expected to be affected. Residents are advised to take precautions against potential flash floods and forest runoff.

 

Moderate southwesterly monsoon winds are covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, coupled with a low-pressure area over the upper northern region. This weather pattern will bring heavy to very heavy rain in certain areas, particularly in the eastern region.

 

Residents in these areas are urged to be cautious of the accumulated rainfall, which could lead to sudden flooding and forest runoff, especially in low-lying areas and near mountainous terrain. Caution is also advised when travelling through areas experiencing thunderstorms.

 

In the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, moderate sea conditions are expected. The upper Andaman Sea will see waves of one to two metres high, while the lower Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will have waves of about 1 metre. In areas with thunderstorms, waves could exceed 2 metres. Mariners in these regions should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions.

“Please be aware of the potential for heavy rainfall and sudden flooding. Those in affected areas, particularly near mountains and waterways, should exercise caution.”

 

Tropical Storm Maliksi made landfall near Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, China today at 1am. The storm is moving north-northeast at approximately 15 kilometres per hour and is expected to weaken into a tropical depression and then into a low-pressure area. Travellers to the affected regions should check weather conditions before departure.

 

Northern Region:

 

Thunderstorms covering 80% of the area with heavy rain in some places, particularly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, and Tak. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27 degrees Celcius to 30 to 36°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

 

Northeastern Region:

 

Thunderstorms covering 70% of the area with heavy rain in some places, particularly in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Roi Et, and Mukdahan. Temperatures will range from 22 to 26°C to 28 to 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

 

Central Region:

 

Thunderstorms covering 70% of the area with heavy rain in some places, particularly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Suphanburi, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C to 32 to 35°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

 

Eastern Region:

 

Thunderstorms covering 80% of the area with heavy to very heavy rain in some places, particularly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27°C to 30 to 35°C, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, rising to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.

 

Southern Region (East Coast):

 

Thunderstorms covering 60% of the area, particularly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla. Temperatures will range from 23 to 27°C to 33 to 36°C, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, rising to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.

 

Southern Region (West Coast):

 

Thunderstorms covering 60% of the area with heavy rain in some places, particularly in Ranong and Phang Nga. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C to 32 to 34°C. Winds in Ranong and further north will be southwesterly at 20 to 35 kilometres per hour, with sea waves about 2 metres high, rising to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas. Winds in Phang Nga and further south will be southwesterly at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour, with sea waves 1 to 2 metres high, rising to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.

 

Bangkok and Surrounding Areas:

 

Thunderstorms covering 70% of the area with some heavy rain. Temperatures will range from 25 to 27°C to 32 to 35°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour, reported KhaoSod.

 

The Meteorological Department’s warning remains in effect, urging residents to stay informed and prepared for potential severe weather conditions.

Every day now here in south Surin huge storms come charging towards us across the plains and hills of the weather map, only to part a few kilometers from us and move elegantly around us without more than 5 drops of rain actually touching the ground.
