Does Donald Trump Have Dementia?
Odd how small trivial things are scrutinized by the left. Just to be clear, folks watching on TV, phone or computer are part of the viewing audience. -

Baht's Biggest Surge Since 1998 Poses Risk to Tourism And Exports
I have a good friend who is Swiss but lives here in Australia and reasonably wealthy. He is an Australian tax resident and submits returns here. He used to spend the majority of the year with his wife in Thailand. I spoke to him yesterday and he commented he will now be spending less than 180 days in Thailand each year from now on until clarity about the tax residency situation purely because he doesn't want to be in Thailand tax system. I know my own plans of full time retirement in Thailand are on hold at the moment. -

NSPRT Calls for Mass Protest Against Constitutional Amendments for Thaksin
The Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) has issued a public call for mass protests, rallying citizens to oppose proposed amendments to the constitution, which they believe are intended to benefit former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The call to action was made on September 20, 2024, when NSPRT leader Phichit Chaiyamongkol posted on Facebook urging people to join the street protests. In his post, Phichit emphasized that while constitutional amendments are possible, they must be done in accordance with established principles. He voiced concerns that these amendments appear to be driven by political motivations rather than by the need for genuine reform. According to him, the amendments should not be enacted solely to protect those currently in power. Phichit also expressed suspicion about the role of Dr. Chusak Sirinij, who is leading the push for the constitutional changes. He warned that the public might view these efforts in one of two ways: Serving a "Big Boss": The proposed amendments could be perceived as a move to protect Thaksin, which would likely lead to further public dissatisfaction. Many already believe that the ruling Pheu Thai Party is pushing for changes not to benefit the people, but to serve the interests of Thaksin. This perception could deepen mistrust in the government, reported Siam Rath. Political Diversion: Another interpretation is that the push for amendments is a tactic to divert public attention from more pressing issues, such as the Prime Minister’s lack of leadership and the controversy surrounding the government's digital currency policy. Regardless of the underlying reasons, the NSPRT believes this issue has become another significant point of contention. The group is now rallying citizens to protest against these constitutional amendments, which they view as serving personal political interests. Picture courtesy: Siam Rath -- 2024-09-21 -

What’s the best area in Thailand for expats to settle for long-term living?
I thought all the women in Pattaya came from those places. How do they remain "untainted" when it's only a six hour drive away? To come here and right off the bat move to the sticks with no personal connections or language skills must be a rare occurrence. Anyone here done it? My private language teacher is beautiful in that cute Thai way and comes from Khorat. And we def chat a lot besides doing language-learning. But I def get that ultra-goodgirl, long courtship, blah in bed vibe. So give me a decadent fat whitie any day of the week, thanks. -

Pickup Truck Driver Loses Control on Slippery Road, Crashes into House in Lampang
How many drivers here have ever heard of aqua planing?? How many driver in Thailand adjust their speed to weather conditions? How many drivers have had any driving instructions?? I am a Western and It took almost a year to get a driver license,as you need experience and study for it... So I know very well how to drive and how to act on weather consitions and traffic situations as in Thailand nobody knows anything about it and if in my country the policeforce and laws for not behaving as being taught will cost you dearly... not a 500 THB but hundreds or euros .. using a cellphone in your hand will cost you 460 euro and speeding 10 km above the allowed speed 125 euro.... just to say -

Baht's Biggest Surge Since 1998 Poses Risk to Tourism And Exports
Not the 130,000+ retirees who have homes and families here they wont. Don't forget, many of us have already seen 37 Baht per Pound and know we can adjust back to that, it's only the newer arrivees that have been spoilt on covid related exchange rates. -

Taylor Swift Shines in Poll, Surpassing Expectations Against Trump and Harris
No experience? Harris has two degrees, had a successful career as a lawyer and was elected Attorney General of California ( a state with an economy so large it would rank as #9 in the world if it were a separate country) despite not being either white or a man. AG is a position of considerable responsibility and is often a pathway into politics. Trump has managed to lose most of his inherited wealth ( hence his desperate merchandising ) and was the host of a TV show. -

Benefits Of Quitting Smoking 20 Minutes To 15 Years
The strangest thing ever......I decided to stop after 35 years of smoking and I did. I went to bed telling myself that tomorrow I'll be an ex-smoker, and I was. Since then I've never even thought about smoking and have never had craving or withdrawals. It just goes to show that you have to get your head right on this and it will be easy. -

What has changed on AN since being acquired by The Tiger ?
Plenty of posts, but too boring. Since all the interesting threads were the ones about P4P, bars and ladyboys, now they don't feature much, if at all, it's too boring to bother, though I will drop in now and then, just in case. -

Best Unlimited Wifi.
For clarity, what you call wifi should actually be referred to as cellular data or mobile data. Wifi is the type of connection that is very local such as in a home, office or coffee shop. Please change the topic's title.- 1

Pickup Truck Driver Loses Control on Slippery Road, Crashes into House in Lampang
You speak for yourself, as I got proper driving education in the Western world with a proper examination and I am driving for more than almost 50 years, and in my country this kind of accidents never happen, but there is also a good working policeforce and fines for following the traffic rules are huge.. Compared to Thailand were nobody got any education to drive as braking and watching a video while they can play on the cellphone and don't watch. -

Baht's Biggest Surge Since 1998 Poses Risk to Tourism And Exports
A high /strong THB + a law to tax foreigners living in Thailand more than 6 months per year (also probably not only on remittances but on their WORLDWIDE total income) and you will have less and less retired expats in Thailand, they will be moving to Malaysia, The Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia or simply go back to their home country for good!- 4

Why do some Farang worry so much about Thailand being too =hot=?
This is among the many reasons I will move back to Texas. 4 seasons, cool and cold weather as a break, yet warm enough to do things almost every day outdoors. If it rains, it does for a few days then stops. A lot of rain might fall in those few days to cause local flooding, but it does stop, then back to warm.
