Western Liberals: How Do You Justify Your Stay in Thailand?

Per the topic: Western Liberals: How Do You Justify Your Stay in Thailand?

Justify to whom?

There are people in the US with whom I eventually came to have so little contact they maybe don't even know that I am gone after 20 years.

I have no idea what the point is of this topic.

As an expat here not an immigrant I try to know all the rules pertaining to my situation and then to follow them. To stay out of trouble not as commentary on Thai politics.

I understand his point  I don't agree with it.

Western Liberal here    to reply to your nonsense is not worth the effort after reading this  "They are the boss, In the West it's the State who is the boss."    Russia ,Iran ,North Korea ,China ,Saudi Arabia aren't in the West    does being a right winger mean geography isn't your friend?    I know male insecurity is part of the typical makeup but geographical confusion?

“Western Liberal here “

LOL, We couldn’t tell!

Even more funny is you’re proud of it.

Are you trying to assert that the western left is democratic? Just because a political ideology labels itself as liberal or democratic doesn’t make it so, the western left is fast tracking toward authoritarian and not the same as political parties in some other regions of the world that are seeking to pull away from authoritarian towards democracy. Or maybe you’re just having trouble reconciling that, which I can understand why.

The reconciliation trouble is all yours

Are you American? Why does everything to "you people" have to be left or right?

You can not think for yourselves?

you may have that backward as the Brits and Aussies are the moaners and complainers for the most part. Look at that make up here on this website as a classic example.

So I notice on these boards a number of people hailing from the West bringing their liberal talking points to Thailand, but still being very scathing of where they came from regarding human rights and the general level of acceptance of 'various groups' the West has from the State to the people. This wouldn't present a problem to me, if not for the obvious hypocrisy. For instance it seems unchecked migration into Western Europe is fine, but the same people will remind you that you are a migrant/expat/tourist in Thailand. When it comes to sexual relations, female employment opportunities, transsexuals and gender identity, both Thailand and the Western world are somewhat aligned, so being an honest person I will not argue on those points.

Ok then lets look further. Immigration options are heavily restricted for foreigners in Thailand. Employment options are lowered to 'jobs that Thai people cannot fill', a stark contrast to migrants in the West who cannot be discriminated against and have the same rights as life long citizens on arrival, and in some cases are favoured for employment opportunities. Now let's look into citizenship. For someone born in Thailand for them to obtain automatic citizenship at least one of their parents must be a Thai citizen. In every western country I know of, citizenship is available on birth. Again Thailand is showing a much more right wing society that these Western liberals have voluntarily migrated to. Obtaining citizenship as a migrant, in Thailand this is quite rare. In the Western world it is very common. Again exposing a much more right wing country these Western liberals are deciding to reside in. Then we look at the patriarchy. In Western Liberalism 'equality' has been preached for decades, and at this point if anything women have more rights then men when it comes to certain situations in the legal system. In Thailand whilst women have as many opportunities in the workforce as Western women do respectively in their society (and actually Thai women are more instrumental and integral to their society than Western women are to theirs, something I give huge props to Thai women over) Thai men still wear the trousers in a household. They are the boss, In the West it's the State who is the boss. Yet more inconsistencies of a Western liberal choosing to move to a country such as Thailand. Domestic violence, this is actually somewhat accepted in Thai society, it's very common. A wife being beaten on a street corner by her boyfriend/husband is unlikely to be stopped, nevermind if it's happening behind closed curtains. Certainly not in the West, domestic voiolece has been clamped down on for decades... Anyway I think people who have integrity and a brain know what I am pointing at with these points.

I am not condemning Thailand, I actually like the country and people overall and have done for a long time, and whilst I don't like certain aspects of Thai society, being right wing I am definitely more compatible with Thailand than a Western Liberal will ever be to the point where I know without large doses of hypocrisy you cannot exist in Thailand. So how do you guys cope? Denial? Low IQ? Sheer sociopathy? Maybe you guys are just lost? Explain.

Seems your off base on a number of your opinions or observations. Too many to list. As for low IQ it seems you may qualify based on your analysis and comparisons.

Which countries?  Certainly not the UK - one parent must be a British citizen.  There was a time when people would come to the UK to have their baby which was, back then British by birth. They would then go on to claim citizenship themselves as the kid depended on them. That all stopped in 1983.

'Historically every child born in the UK was automatically British. Then the British Nationality Act 1981 came into force on 1 January 1983 which said that a child born after that date would only be born British if at least one of their parents was British or was settled at the time of the birth.'

I don't really care about the actors personal beliefs but DeNiro is pushing it. Some say Ton Cruise is an idiot, I don't care, I like his movies.

Tom Cruise seems like a nice guy. Great movies and doesn't tell people how to vote.

Because ''unchecked migration'' doesn't exist in England.  The Windrush Generation were invited to England and given British passports.  Many other former British colonies followed.  Slavery was banned but Britain wanted to keep using the cheap workforce.

They were even part of the British colonies so your use of the word migration is off.  The immigration that you see in the UK is checked and double checked and checked again.  You simply can not say someone has migrated illegally when they hold a British passport and live legally in England.  You are scaremongering.

When was his last good film? Must have been 30 years ago. Pacino is twice the actor DeNiro ever was and Pacino isn't half as annoying or arrogant.

Explain

They rationally cannot.

Actually, they would probably try to rationalise it by bringing up "White-privilege" and "colonialism".  A lot of these "open borders" types actually appear to want Western (White) society to fall.

My parents were as blue (UK Conservative) as anyone could be in their voting choices and expressed opinions.  But in their personal interactions with other individuals they were the most Socialist minded people I have known (neither had any connection with church or religion).

They would have been confused, horrified and angry if anyone had pointed out their contradiction to them.

I have never found anyone who would not react similarly.

I doubt that you would react differently.

Today's liberal isn't the same animal as we knew in the past. They have become the fun police. Demand made up pronouns be used, boys can use the girls bathrooms, drag queen story hour.

The problem with a lot of people in the USA is that they think what happens in their country, happens in Western Europe.

Leaders of "the Free World", never understood what they mean by that as they certainly are not leaders of Western Europe.

There wouldn't be a Western Europe if it wasn't for "US"     maybe that's what they mean.
