A Thai man was severely injured after being attacked on the evening of June 18th, 2024, near Pattaya, allegedly for teasing an older man about his age. The assault took place near Wat Huai Yai, in the Banglamung district of Chonburi province. The local police and rescue teams were alerted to the incident at 9.36 PM and quickly arrived on the scene.

At the scene, the authorities found a wounded 36-year-old man, Mr. Wirayuth Chomthalak, surrounded by a crowd of people. Mr. Chomthalak had a deep cut on his head that was bleeding heavily, and he seemed drunk. After administering immediate first aid, the rescue workers transferred him to the nearest hospital.

Bystanders detained the alleged attacker, Mr. Thongchai Tiendang, aged 58, who also sustained injuries until the police arrived. The victim, Mr. Chomthalak, said he knew Mr. Tiendang and was merely joking with him. However, Mr. Tiendang perceived the teasing as a threat and reacted violently, attacking Mr. Chomthalak with a machete. Mr. Chomthalak responded by attacking Mr. Tiendang with a baseball bat.

Despite admitting to normally tolerating teasing about his age, Mr. Tiendang felt threatened by Mr. Chomthalak, particularly as he was drunk. This led him to act impulsively and attack his accuser.

Currently, Mr. Tiendang is under police custody, and further investigation into the case is underway.
