Slippery highway causes bus to overturn, injuring 37 passengers

Yesterday, a public bus veered off the road in Nakhon Ratchasima, hit a lamp post, and capsized due to a slippery highway. As a result, 37 passengers were injured; 19 were men and 18 were women.

 

The accident occurred on Route 304 in the Pak Thong Chai district. The report was received by Chakraphop Chueasai, the Police Lieutenant Colonel of Pak Thong Chai Police Station. Immediately, emergency services, including the Hook 31 rescue units, were dispatched to the location.

 

Ambulances from several points, including Pak Thong Chai, Suranaree University of Technology Hospital, Chokchai Hospital, and Pak Thong Chai Subdistrict Municipality, were sent to help the hurt passengers.

 

Upon arrival, the rescuers found a blue and white public bus that had hit a lamp post, causing it to break, and overturn in the middle of the highway. The bus was en route from Nong Khai to Rayong and had 43 passengers on board.

 

 

The injured passengers were given first aid on the spot, then transported to different hospitals. Of these, 26 passengers (14 men and 12 women) were taken to Pak Thong Chai Hospital, seven passengers (four men, and three women) were treated at Suranaree University of Technology Hospital, while Chokchai Hospital admitted four passengers, (one man and three women). The remaining six passengers were unharmed and resumed their journey in a different bus.

 

Preliminary investigation indicates that the accident might have been caused by the slippery road conditions due to constant rain. The bus was travelling from Bo Win in Si Racha District, Chon Buri, heading towards Nong Khai province, and the accident happened when it was coming downhill at a high speed, making it lose control and flip over on the slippery road.

 

Pak Thong Chai Police Station officers will carry out more investigations on the accident; they plan to interview the passengers and the bus driver to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.

No, No, No !!!....   its so utterly pathetic that the real 'human blame' is always avoided and the blame is placed on an inanimate object - in this case slippery road...

The cause of this accident was not the rain or a slippery road, it was the bus driver driving too fast for the conditions... as was mentioned here...

Here... corrected that last quote: The accident happened when the 'driver' was driving too fast for the conditions and speeding down a hill at high speed, the drivers actions resulting in a loss of control and the bus skidded and flipped.

Mmm I'll have to think about that, I can't imagine what the cause of the crash was, maybe it was a ghost or a spirit, crossing the road causing the bus to lose all control of itself.

Yup...  and its an almost certainty that the busses tyres had no tread, were over inflated and not fit for use...  (

 

And before some pedant jumps up and states that the Op never stated anything about the tyres etc... that was just a guess of course, but one based on seeing such vehicles on the roads here on a daily basis...  How can I tell the inflation just by looking at the tyre asks another pedant ?... obviously I can't...  but I know enough peoples whose tyres have been well over inflated after a service etc to know that over-inflation is not and uncommon thing here.

IMO the rear axle should have twin wheels anyway, easy to modify but that would cost money,

Did all vehicles in that area overturn?

If that is the case, then maybe those conditions are to blame, nobody could do anything to avoid it.

 

But just in case that some vehicles didn't overturn, maybe they even passed the spot without an accident, now what would that indicate?

Maybe that it was possible to drive responsible and no accident will happen?

So, what is to blame, the conditions or the drivers?

Perhaps as an addition, you could also mention that the bus had slippery tyres, or that the brakes were not working properly.
It wouldn't surprise me.

After reading Pak Thong Chai district I knew this would come.

Such "mountainous"  roads are not for Thai drivers.

I like this road.
