Recurring bouts of high fever with no other symptoms.

I have been getting recurring high fevers with no other symptoms.  Usually last for 3-5 days and I have controlled it with Tylenol and ibuprofen. The fever has been in the 38.5--39.8 range and is lowered by taking those meds.  Other than feeling achy and sweating at times,  I have no other symptoms.  I am having this problem now and also had it for a few days about 2 weeks ago. I had a similar bout a few months ago.   A couple of days ago I had the best blood/urine test package I could buy at LifeCare and all was normal.  I am 70 years old, non smoker,  1-2 beers at night.  I am at a very normal weight and I try to go to  the gym regularly. I did not get tested for covid.  I do not have insurance so I would need to pay cash for all treatments which is not a problem.  Anyone had anything similar ?  I hope Sheryl with see this and offer some suggestions.  Thanks for any help.

At the time you are having a fever, get a thorough check-up in a hospital, not just LifeCare. At the time you have a fever it's hard to believe all other values will be normal.

Also chest X-ray, respiratory panel, abdomen ultrasound,  blood cultures,  heart echo. All to be done when you are having a fever.  Bring the results from LifeCare as comparison and because  some  examinations don't have be repeated. 

Do an ATK for covid first, from 7/11

These episodes (this is the third episode,  right?) may not be related,  but could be, and it can be many things. 

 

Pattaya Memorial Hospital, or if money is no object,  Bangkok Hospital.

I would get screened for malaria and similar parasites as part of any evaluation.

Possible STI, can have no other symptoms. Chlamydia is popular easily treated

I don't know the tests LifeCare performs but STDs should show up in the urine (PCR)

Yes, but it's very improbable that this is malaria.  Especially as he probably hasn't been jungle trekking in Myanmar or Cambodia recently

I bet 10 baht it's Chlamydia, but if op does have no condom sex then worth getting tested incl syphilis, you don't want to be carrying that one

You must see a doctor. A physical examination and other tests (many of them not available at a stand alone lab) are needed. 

 

Suggest seeing an infectious disease specialist.

In the meantime keep a record of your fevers snd if possible lay off the paracetemol and ibufrofen as these will mask fever. Depending on when and how long you have been taking them, possible that the fever is actually constant rather than intermittent. 

 

And definitely test for COVID. Before going to hospital.

Strange, very fast,  drop in fever temp.  Within one hour it dropped from 38.9  down to a normal reading of 37.  Not a good nights sleep,  feeling cold at times and also hot with sweats.  I woke up today with a lower temp. 36.5 ...No other systomes to mention.

I only take these meds when the fever get high.  Weeks or months past by and I don't take these meds and feel fine.  I was hoping the body will heal itself.

Don’t underestimate how serious this is.  There are a few infections where this is the intermediate phase and the ultimate phase can be fatal.

 

Follow Sheryl’s advice urgently.

Not a big fan of hospitals and all their tests.  It's not about the money.  I am a big believer in the body's ability to heal itself.  I have been fortunate and have been very healthy for 70 years.  I don't have a death wish.

If, at 70yrs old you don't like hospital tests, that to me sounds very much like a death wish. The body can only heal its self for minor things, but as you get older, those minor things can become major. Better to catch thing early, then leave it until it is too late. You are being given good advice here, If you choose to ignore it. I doubt we will be hearing from for much longer. Your choice of course.

Rather than go down the rabbit hole of all the many and very different things this might be, see an infectious disease specialist amd find out for sure. Sooner rather than later.

I would do the same in my home country.  When the fever passes and I feel fine,  I just go about my life. The only reason I mention this now is I had a 3-4 day bout of fever 2 weeks ago and now it is starting again.  Sure, if my arm was broken I would immediately go to eh Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.   I am afraid of spending a lot of time with doctors doing trial and error test looking for info.  If you ever saw the TV series 'House'   they would do tests, one by one, so they could eliminate possible causes.  Yes, in the end they always found some rare illness and the patient was successfully treated. Not sure I want to be that guy as I have no other symptoms.

Thanks.  I did get 3 covid vaccines back when they were giving them out.  Not much point in talking about covid vaccines as the covid story is certainly not clear.  As far as I know,  covid has changed over the years so really no reason to even talk about it.
