Louis Theroux: If you were shocked by my film on Israeli settlers in the West Bank, you ...
A group of more than 350 international actors, directors and producers have signed a letter published on the first day of the Cannes Film Festival condemning the killing of Fatma Hassona, the 25-year-old Palestinian photojournalist and protagonist of the documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk. Hassouna was killed along with 10 relatives in an Israeli air strike on her family home in northern Gaza last month, the day after the documentary was announced as part of the ACID Cannes selection. The signatories - which include Pedro Almodóvar, Ruben Östlund, Guy Pierce, Ralph Fiennes, Melissa Barrera, Yórgos Lánthimos, Susan Sarandon, Alfonso Cuarón and David Cronenberg – denounce genocide in Gaza: "We cannot remain silent while genocide is taking place in Gaza," read the letter initiated by several pro-Palestinian activist groups and published in French newspaper Libération and US magazine Variety. Bringing Discreet Personal Items into Thailand – Legal Risk Question
This is a straightforward inquiry regarding the potential legal or criminal risks of bringing a single personal item of a sexual nature, such as a sex toy, into Thailand in checked luggage. Thai law appears to classify such items as “obscene objects,” which are technically prohibited from being imported, possessed, or sold. Penalties for violations may include up to three years of imprisonment, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both. However, it is unclear how strictly this law is applied in practice, particularly in cases involving discreet transport of a single item for personal use. That said, I’m looking for informed responses from anyone with firsthand experience or credible knowledge of how strictly this law is enforced in practice, particularly when it comes to discreetly traveling with a single item intended for private, personal use. This is a genuine legal question submitted on behalf of a friend who would like to understand the real-world enforcement risks in order to avoid any unintentional violations while traveling. -

The Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon and the British film-maker Mike Leigh are among hundreds of figures from the cultural world accusing the BBC of censoring Palestinian voices, after its decision to delay the broadcast of a documentary on medics in Gaza. Tim Davie, the BBC’s director general, has received an open letter signed by more than 600 industry figures – including some of his own employees – stating that editorial caution over the subject has spilled over into “political suppression”. The signatories demand the immediate release of Gaza: Medics Under Fire, claiming it has undergone extensive editorial reviews and factchecking and has been ready for broadcast for months.
