Repeat offender rearrested in Bangkok five minutes after release

A repeat offender found himself back behind bars just five minutes after he had been released from prison for theft in Chon Buri. The suspect stole money from numerous donation boxes.

 

Initially from Udon Thani province, 21 year old Saharat Sananthai was apprehended by Banglamung police as he exited Min Buri Central Prison in Bangkok yesterday, July 8.

 

Saharat had finished serving time for a previous theft conviction. Police allege he committed a series of thefts since May, masquerading as an official from a well-known charity foundation to access donation boxes at various locations in Chon Buri. Using fake documents, he reportedly deceived staff at hospitals, shopping malls, hotels, and airports to open the boxes and steal money.

 

 

One notable incident involved Saharat stealing over 40,000 baht from a donation box at a local hospital. Overall, police estimate he stole approximately 100,000 baht from various locations.

 

Prior to his recent arrest, Saharat had spent two months in prison in Bangkok on a separate theft charge. Banglamung police secured an arrest warrant from the Pattaya Provincial Court and waited for his release. Upon his short stint of newfound freedom, he was immediately arrested and taken to the Banglamung Police Station to face new charges.

 

Police describe Saharat as a repeat offender with a history of theft dating back to the age of 15. He has been in and out of juvenile detention and prison, consistently for theft-related crimes. Saharat explained his return to crime was due to his inability to find employment following the death of his parents. He now faces charges of theft and document forgery, reported Pattaya News.

Two years in the army might straighten him out, something to do every day, a small income, bed and breakfast.

These donation boxes must have been very close to each other if he nicked the boxes in 5 minutes.

well in new york at least, you can at least go steal many times a day, as long as it is less then 1000 dollars

How does that effect you from getting employment ? He's been on the nick since 15, and now only 21, but it is a young age to lose your parents. What a shame Thailand has no social service programs for young offenders, and help them into work, I wonder what age he was when his parents died. Sad really when there are Thais with $ billions.

And little real activity / much time to think about the next location(s) to target to clear out the donation boxes.
