Pattaya — A homeless man was tragically killed after being struck by a motorcycle on a highway near Pattaya last night, July 13th. The 14-year-old motorcyclist claimed the victim was sitting in the dark by the roadside.

The incident occurred at around 10:50 PM on Saturday on Highway 336 in the Nong Pla Lai sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Banglamung police and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find the victim, an unidentified 50-60 year old homeless man, lying on the road with large lacerations on his face and arms. Rescuers performed CPR on him, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The red Honda PCX motorcycle involved in the accident was found overturned in the middle of the road, with its front end severely damaged. The driver, a 14-year-old girl and her passenger, a 13-year-old girl (names withheld due to their ages), were both injured and taken to Banglamung Hospital for treatment.

They really need to stop children riding motor scooters.  They have no experience and pretty much fail to react in a serious situation.  No licence or insurance so their victims get nothing.

Need to be 15 to legally ride a motorcycle of up to 100cc capacity. You would need to be 18 to legally ride a PCX. Prosecute the parents!

'They are little more than a motorized push bike'?   You've obviously never ridden a modern motor scooter, especially a PCX.   Those 'innocent victims' are underage, have no licens

But that does not detract from the fact that a minor, riding a motorcycle is illegal, even in 'tolerant Thailand'. Culture is irrelevant.

I suspect that having the headlight turned on and driving at proper speed would have helped. If the guy was sitting on the "roadside" how did they hit him leaving the damaged bike in the middle of the road?

What exactly were a 14 and 13 year old doing out at almost 11pm at night on a motorcycle? Also, who let them drive illegally on their motorcycle?

The headlights of modern motorcycles are always on, even in daylight.

Following an accident a motorcycle will not necessarily come to rest at the point of impact, in fact it rarely does.

A lot of blaming the innocent victims on this thread.

The homeless idiot was on the road in the dark. It could have been any of us that hit him.

Kids are fine on motorcycles in Thailand, many use them to get to school etc.

They are little more than a motorized push bike.

I hope the girls make a speedy recovery.

And probably can handle riding a motor scooter better than half the farangs in Pattaya.

Harry Homeless should not have been on the road in the dark.

"They are little more than a motorized push bike. "........???

Motorized push bikes can't travel over 100 Kmh?

Kids, under 15, should not be riding a motorcycle at all!

Neither would a 'motorised push-bike' weigh 100kgs and have the inertia to kill someone if hit...

Its astonishing to read the logic of some on this forum... they are oblivious to their own stupidity.

Looks to be a first gen PCX... those 125's were fairly gutless.

I see children much younger than 14 leaving a nearby school every day, on motorbikes, 3 or 4 up, with police directing the traffic. It is and has been acceptable for children to ride motorbikes for decades, even though it is illegal and police turn a blind eye..

I blame the parents for sending the children out to purchase late night snacks, instead of doing their homework or depriving them of sleep.

What is wrong with Thai parents that let kids have a motorcycle??? Irresponsible people!! Kids should NOT be on a bike!! I see them every morning driving to school with maybe up to three extra kids on the back!! 😣

When I first moved here I asked the wife...... when are the kids allowed to ride a motorbike?.........she said as soon as they stop falling off.

I see them as young 10yo hammering along, flat out ......three have died in the past 12 months.

Thats only modern bikes which most are not when you get outside a major city. You dont drive much in Thailand at night. In the south where I live less than 50% drive with lights on after dark. if your lucky they might have a headlamp on their head. If the homeless man was in the dark on the side of the road its unlikely they would end up in the middle of the road but anythings possible

Same in Isaan.....cars as well, frequently have no lights front or rear. Some on bikes might  tie a torch on the front or wear a head torch.

In the USA. Kids aged 15 are allowed to drive these without an adult if they obtain a learning permit. But those are mopeds with top speeds at 64KPH. Tricked out can be up to 94KPH. But in Thailand these license laws are rarely enforced. Checkpoints may catch one or 2. but usually they will fine them and release to drive home. In rural areas they drive 3 to 4 on one bike. I once saw 5 on a bike riding home from school and they were on the highway.

The fact is. There is a cop at the entrance to every school and that same cop allows these kids to come and go on bikes knowing full well that they are too young to have permits to drive. Yet, nothing is ever done to stop them which due to their positions in the school entrance would be quite easy.

Great, you managed to get all idiotic things in one post! Congratulations.

Law for the kind of motorbike they were driving: Min 18 year and a driver license. (They had none and did not fulfill the age requirement!)

Insurance not valid, as no driver license and underaged.

It´s not a push bike. They can reach speeds of 120-160 km/h

The homeless guy, was sitting by the roadside, and the bike have lights, so NO, not anybody of us with the right age and a driver license could have hit him. You might be the exception, though!

At first, you are also stating that the underaged girls without driver license, that hit and killed a man is the victims??? Are you serious. Please try and get that treated.

yes, I wish them a speedy recovery. Both physically and mentally.

The homeless guy was probably drunk or on drugs, sitting on the road in the dark and who caused the accident, is dead so not much can be done for him.

Glad it wasn’t me.

NYC bicyclists are killing pedestrians and the city won’t stop it

streetlights were not working, and that they did not see the victim sitting on the road until it was too late.

looks like she is conscious in the photo, probably her helmet saved her.
